Jan Rindfleisch
Jan Rindfleisch is an American artist, educator, author, curator, and community builder. Rindfleisch is known for the programming she initiated and oversaw at the Euphrat Museum of Art; for her book on the history of art communities in the South Bay Area, ''Roots and Offshoots: Silicon Valley's Art Community'', and for her role in documenting the careers and legacies of Agnes Pelton and Ruth Tunstall Grant. Education Rindfleisch has a BS in Physics from Purdue University and an MFA in sculpture from San José State University. Career Curator Rindfleisch was the executive director of the Euphrat Museum in Cupertino, California from 1979 to 2011. Agnes Lawrence Pelton
Agnes Lawrence Pelton (1881–1961) was a Modernism, modernist painter who was born in Germany and moved to the United States as a child. She studied art in the United States and Europe. She made portraits of Puebloans, Pueblo Native Americans, desert landscapes and still lifes. Pelton's work evolved through at least three distinct themes: her early "Imaginative Paintings," art of the American Southwest people and landscape, and abstract art that reflected her spiritual beliefs. Early life Agnes Lawrence Pelton was born in Stuttgart, Germany to American parents, William and Florence Pelton. She lived in Rotterdam, the Netherlands from 1882 to 1884 and in Basel, Switzerland from 1884 to 1888. In 1888, when the Agnes was about 7 years old, she and her mother moved to Elizabeth Tilton's home in Brooklyn, New York, located at 1403 Pacific Street. The California Arts Council is a state agency based in Sacramento, United States. Its eight council members are appointed by the Governor and the state Legislature. The agency's mission is to advance California through arts, culture and creativity. History The California Arts Council was established in 1976 and signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown, who dissolved the existing 15-member California Arts Commission, which had been in existence since 1963. Southern Exposure (SoEx) is a not-for-profit arts organization and alternative art space founded in 1974 in the Mission District of San Francisco, California. It was originally founded as a grassroots, cooperative art gallery in conjunction with Project Artaud which was a live/work artist community. By the 1980s, they converted the gallery to a community space for supporting emerging artists.
