Jan Murray (born Murray Janofsky; October 4, 1916 – July 2, 2006) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and game-show host who originally made his name on the Borscht Belt and later was known for his frequent television appearances over several decades. ''Treasure Hunt,'' also known as ''The New Treasure Hunt'' during its 1970s run, is an American television game show that aired throughout the 1950s, 1970s, and 1980s. In the show, contestants selected a mystery package (originally a treasure chest, later a gift box) in the hopes of winning cash or prizes. 1950s version (''Treasure Hunt'') The earliest version of the show was first broadcast in the U.S. from 1956 to 1959; initially on ABC, and then later on NBC. ''Dollar a Second'' is an American comedy game show hosted by Jan Murray which originally aired from September 20, 1953, to June 14, 1954, on the DuMont Television Network. It was based on the French radio program ''Cent Francs par seconde'' (which had been made into a romantic comedy of the same name at the time of the American debut). Game play Contestants (team or solo player) had to perform various tasks, winning $1 (compared to 100 F oughly €3 in September 2022on the original show) for every second they were onstage, and, unless they were paying the penalty, could quit out at any time. John Herbert Gleason (February 26, 1916June 24, 1987) was an American actor, comedian, writer, composer, and conductor known affectionately as "The Great One." Developing a style and characters from growing up in Brooklyn, New York, he was known for his brash visual and verbal comedy, exemplified by his city-bus-driver character Ralph Kramden in the television series ''The Honeymooners''.
