Jan Lundgren
Jan Lundgren, born on 22 March 1966 in Olofström, Blekinge, and resident in Ystad since 2005, is an internationally active Swedish jazz musician. He is a pianist, composer, and senior lecturer at the Malmö Academy of Music, where he has taught since autumn 1991, as well as the Artistic Director of the Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival, Ystad Winter Piano Fest and Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen. Jan Lundgren is a Steinway Artist and has won many awards. He tours internationally and is signed to the German record label, ACT. Biography Jan Lundgren was born in Olofström and grew up in Ronneby in the south of Sweden. He started to play the piano at the age of five, and decided in his late teens to become a professional musician. After graduating from the Malmo Academy of Music in 1991, he began to establish himself as a musician on the Swedish jazz scene. Olofström
Olofström, previously Holje by, is a locality in Blekinge County, Sweden with 7,327 inhabitants in 2010. in 1967, the market town of Olofström was merged with the villages Kyrkhult and Jämshög to create Olofström Municipality. Olofström is the seat of Olofström Municipality. The increased use of cars in the 1950s and 1960s was the great boost for the municipality. Today the automobile industry, dominated by Volvo Cars, is the largest employer in Olofström. Jukka Perko
Jukka Perko (born 18 February 1968 in Huittinen, Finland) is a Finnish saxophonist. Biography Perko first became known in Finland by playing at the 1986 Pori Jazz Festival. His international career started when he played in the big band of Dizzy Gillespie the following year, with which he toured in the following two years through the US and Europe. In addition at this time he studied music at the Sibelius Academy. Dort Lernte is the Vibraphonist known by Severi Pyysalo, by which he regularly collaborated. In the period 1989 to 1994 Perko played with the UMO Jazz Orchestra, afterwards he concentrated on his solo career. He led different bands (including the Trio ''Perko-Pyysalo-Viinikainen'') and collaborated with musicians like McCoy Tyner, Red Rodney and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen among others. Eric Alexander (jazz Saxophonist)
Eric Alexander (born August 4, 1968) is an American jazz saxophonist. Early life and education Alexander was born in Illinois. He began as a classical musician, studying alto saxophone at Indiana University with Eugene Rousseau in 1986. He soon switched to jazz and the tenor saxophone, however, and transferred to William Paterson University, where he studied with Harold Mabern, Rufus Reid, Joe Lovano, Gary Smulyan, Norman Simmons, Steve Turre and others. Career Alexander finished second at the 1991 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. He was soon signed by a record label. Alexander has worked with many jazz musicians, including Chicago pianist Harold Mabern, bassist Ron Carter, drummer Idris Muhammad, and guitarist Pat Martino. Sylvia Vrethammar
Eva Sylvia Vrethammar (born 22 August 1945, Uddevalla, Sweden), is a Swedish traditional pop and jazz singer. She is the daughter of Harald Vrethammar, an education official, and Britta Vrethammar, a musical education teacher, specializing in the piano. In 1969, she released a Swedish-language cover version of Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man", entitled "En lärling på våran gård". Vrethammar is also fluent in English. In the 1970s, she occasionally appeared as guest singer with the Bert Kaempfert orchestra, singing in English. Lars Erstrand
Lars Erstrand (27 September 1936 Uppsala, Sweden – 11 March 2009) was a Swedish vibraphonist. Career Erstrand began his musical life on piano, but after hearing Lionel Hampton he changed to vibraphone. During the 1960s he joined a band led by clarinetist Ove Lind in the swing style of Benny Goodman. The band played at the Stampen Stampen club (The Pawn Shop) in Stockholm. Erstrand also worked in the Swedish Swing Society with Antti Sarpila. He performed with Goodman and other American musicians who passed through Sweden. He was one of the musicians responsible for ''Jazz at the Pawnshop'' in 1977. In 1991 he recorded ''Two Generations'' with Lionel Hampton. Anders Bergcrantz (born 1961 in Malmö, Sweden) is a Swedish jazz trumpeter and composer. Bergcrantz has recorded several albums as a leader and on many more as a sideman. Peter Asplund (born 26 September 1969) is a jazz trumpeter, singer, and composer. Asplund studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He has recorded several solo albums and participated as solo artist on records with other artists, such as Lisa Ekdahl, and Viktoria Tolstoy. Émile Parisien (born 12 October 1982) is a French soprano and alto saxophonist, jazz musician, and composer.
