Jamie Records
Jamie Records is a record label founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1956 by Harold Lipsius (1913–2007) and Allan Sussel (1924–2003). Their first 45rpm single, "It's Great to Fall in Love"/"Truly" by Marian Caruso, was issued in 1956. The label was named after Allan Sussel's eldest daughter, Jamie Sussel Turner. History The label became popular in 1958 with the release of Duane Eddy's " Rebel Rouser"/"Stalkin'", which reached No. 6 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Eddy became the mainstay Jamie artist, recording hit after hit, including "Because They're Young" (No. 4) and "Forty Miles of Bad Road" (No. 9). Eddy's last Jamie single "Runaway Pony"/"Just Because" was issued in 1962. The Jordan Brothers also recorded for Jamie, hailing from Frackville, Pennsylvania. Tony Allen (musician)
Tony Oladipo Allen (20 July 1940 – 30 April 2020) was a Nigerian drummer, composer, and songwriter who lived and worked in Paris, France. Allen was the drummer and musical director of Fela Kuti's band Africa '70 from 1968 to 1979, and was one of the founders of the Afrobeat genre. Fela once stated that "without Tony Allen, there would be no Afrobeat". He was described by Brian Eno as "perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived". Later in life, Allen collaborated with Damon Albarn on several projects, including Gorillaz, the Good, the Bad & the Queen and Rocket Juice & the Moon. Sanford Clark
Sanford Clark (October 24, 1935 – July 4, 2021) was an American country-rockabilly singer and guitarist, best known for his 1956 hit " The Fool". Biography Clark was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, from the age of 9. He first began performing in the Phoenix area in the early 1950s. He spent time in the Air Force in the South Pacific; he formed a band there which won a talent show in Hawaii. Sanford Clarkat Allmusic Returning to Phoenix, he and his friend Al Casey met Lee Hazlewood, then a local DJ. Clark, with Casey on guitar, recorded one of Hazlewood's songs, "The Fool", in Floyd Ramsey's Audio Recorders studio on MCI Records in 1956. Claudine Clark
Claudine Clark (born April 26, 1941) is an American R&B musician, best known as the singer and composer of the 1962 hit, " Party Lights", which reached No. 5 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Career Clark was born in Macon, Georgia, United States, but grew up in Philadelphia, and she began recording in 1958 for the Herald record label, with her debut single, "Angel of Happiness". She was backed on that recording by the Spinners. Clark then moved to New York, but she also found no commercial return from her recording on Gotham Records, before moving to Chancellor Records. Clark then had a hit with her second single for Chancellor, with her self-penned "Party Lights". Ina Anita Carter (March 31, 1933 – July 29, 1999) was an American singer who played upright bass, guitar, and autoharp. She performed with her sisters, Helen and June, and her mother, Maybelle, initially under the name The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle.
