Jamie Rauch
James Richert Rauch (born August 17, 1979) is an American former competition swimmer and Olympic medalist. Rauch was TAGSswimmer, who swam on his local club swim teamCypress Fairbanks Swim Club(FLEET) until college. In his high school career at Cypress Creek High School he was a five-time UIL high school state champion. In his college career at the University of Texas he helped his teams win 2 NCAA titles in 2000 and 2001. He was also a member of 5 NCAA championship relays and was a 18-time all-American. Rauch won a silver medal as a member of the second-place U.S. team in the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. After he retired from swimming Rauch spent a number of years on the USA Swimming Board of Directors and the USA Swimming Athlete Executive Committee. Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely aerobic in nature and requires stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. Long-distance swimming is distinguished from ordinary swimming in that the distances involved are longer than are typically swum in pool competitions. When a given swim calls more on endurance than on outright speed, it is the more likely to be considered a long-distance swim.
