Jamie Bond
Jamie Bond (born 12 November 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Australian Football League (AFL). Bond was an Under-19s player at Hawthorn and joined the senior list when they picked him up in the 1988 VFL draft. He only played reserves football for Hawthorn in 1989, unable to break into the dominant Hawthorn team. It was with Fitzroy that he made his AFL debut, in round 17 of the 1991 season, against Melbourne at the MCG. He had kicked a goal and a behind from his three disposals. He didn't appear in another senior game with Fitzroy and made his way to South Launceston, for whom he won a best and fairest in 1994. Bond was then a successful player in the Bendigo Football League, where he played for Maryborough. In 1996 he won the league's best player award, the Michelsen Medal and would have won another in 2001 had he not been ineligible through suspension. The Bendigo Football Netball League (previously known as the Sandhurst Football Association, Bendigo and District Football Association, Bendigo Football Association and Bendigo Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Bendigo region of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. The Maryborough Football & Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Magpies'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Maryborough, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Bendigo Football Netball League. History Maryborough were Ballarat Football League premiers on four occasions from 1924 to 1931 but missed both the 1929 and 1930 seasons as they were without a home ground. The council had decided to allocate Princess Park to the Maryborough District Football Association (MDFA). After returning and winning the 1931 premiership, Maryborough applied to join the Bendigo league and were suspended from the Ballarat league as a result. From 1932 to 1940, a separate club called Maryborough United participated in the Bendigo league. The original club reformed in 1945 and they spent a season in the MDFA before returning to the Ballarat league in 1946. Best And Fairest
In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final. 1988 VFL Draft
The 1988 VFL draft, held on the 9th of November 1988, was the third annual national draft held by the VFL/AFL, Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). It consisted of a pre-season draft and a national draft. In 1988 there were 112 picks to be drafted between 14 teams in the national draft.
