James Edward Anthony Whitaker (1 October 194015 February 2012) was an English journalist, specialising in the British royal family. Early life Born in Cheltenham, elder son of George Edward Dudley Whitaker, OBE (1916-1983), and Mary Evelyn Austin, née Haslett (died 1989). George Whitaker, of Wolverton Park, Wolverton, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, was managing director of Sperry Rand by 1972, having previously been a sales director and general manager at Fisher Humphries & Co. Ltd and Salopian Engineers Ltd, manufacturers of agricultural equipment. The Whitaker family had owned an estate, Caldwell (alternately given as "Caldewell"), near Pershore, Worcestershire; George Whitaker's mother, Daisy, was sister of the cricketers Maurice Jewell, Arthur Jewell, and John Jewell, they being children of Maurice Jewell, of Hall Place, Bexley, Kent, vice-consul at Chile. James Whitaker (cricketer)
John James Whitaker (born 5 May 1962) is an English former cricketer, who played in one Test and two ODIs for England in 1986–7. Life and career Whitaker was educated at Uppingham School and spent his whole career with Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and captained them from 1996 until he retired in 1999. In 1986, Whitaker was the leading English batsman in the national batting averages with 1,526 runs at 66 apiece, and was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year for 1987. He was selected to go on the 1986-87 Ashes tour. He started the tour well, scoring a hundred against South Australia in a tour match, and played one Test in Adelaide when Ian Botham was out injured. However, his form fell away sharply. Whitaker also played two one-day internationals in 1987 for the England side which won the Sharjah Cup. Norris J. "Jim" Whitaker (born September 30, 1950) is an American politician of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party who served as mayor of Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, from 2003 to 2009. Prior to his mayoral term, Whitaker served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003. In October 2003 he was elected borough mayor, defeating the incumbent, fellow Republican Rhonda Boyles. Whitaker was reelected in 2006 with over 77% of the vote. As mayor, Whitaker was known for supporting spending on quality of life services such as parks and recreation, as well as spearheading a campaign to prevent a drastic reduction in the operations of Eielson Air Force Base due to federal budget cuts. James William Whittaker
James William Whittaker (1828, Manchester - 6 September 1876, Betws-y-Coed) was a British watercolour painter, best known for his landscapes of North Wales. Life He was born in a family of a warehouseman and began his artistic career as an apprentice to Manchester engraver Joseph Heyes, soon turning to painting. In 1858 he moved to Llanrwst, where he would paint local landscapes in watercolours. With the possible exception of a trip to Switzerland and Italy in about 1864 and a Northern journey in the late 1860s, he remained in North Wales for the rest of his life. Upon meeting Francis William Topham in Wales, Whittaker was encouraged to join the Society of Painters in Watercolours, becoming an associate in 1862, and a member in 1864. James Whitaker Wright (9 February 1846 – 26 January 1904) was a company promoter and swindler, who committed suicide at the Royal Courts of Justice in London immediately following his conviction for fraud. Early life The eldest of five children, he was the son of James Wright, a Methodist Minister, and Matilda Whitaker, a tailor's daughter. He was born in Stafford, and spent his early years in various parts of England with his father. At an early age he was sent to Shireland Hall School in the Birmingham suburb of Smethwick, a boarding establishment funded by charitable donations which catered for the sons of clergymen of all denominations. He was instructed in Latin and Greek and was taught how to use a printing press. In 1861, according to the census of that year, he was a printer in Ripon. Between 1866 and 1868, he was a Methodist preacher like his father, but retired due to ill health. He was also the elder brother of John Joseph Wright, who invented the reversible trolle ...
