James "Jimmy" H. Walsh (21 November 1923 – 30 May 2018) was an Irish medical doctor and former Deputy Chief Medical Officer to the Government of Ireland. Background Walsh was born in Dublin, Ireland to Ena Warren and James Walsh from County Wexford. Jimmy's grandfather, also named James Walsh, was a dispensary doctor who had founded a fever hospital and inspired Jimmy to study medicine. Walsh attended Castleknock College before studying undergraduate medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and later public health at University College Dublin. Career Walsh and his wife, Nancy, emigrated to England in the 1950s where Walsh worked for the National Health Service. After returning to Ireland, Walsh was appointed medical inspector at the Department of Health where he later became Deputy Chief Medical Officer. James Walsh ( 1833–1871) was a transported convict and artist. He is known for artworks depicting the early Swan River Colony and native Australian life. He is also thought to have been responsible for a number of fine-quality classical drawings on the wall of Fremantle Prison in Western Australia, which were accidentally uncovered beneath whitewash in 1945. Imprisonment Walsh, a clerk and painter, was convicted at the Old Bailey, London, in 1852 aged 20 for stealing two diamond crosses and 13 diamonds from Jean-Baptiste Girard. He was also charged with forging an order of goods. He received 15 years' transportation. He arrived in Western Australia on board ''Ramillies'' on 10 August 1854 and was held at Fremantle convict establishment for two years. He was released for four months then convicted again for forgery of a one-pound note. For this crime he was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment. James Patrick "Flat" Walsh (March 23, 1897 — December 2, 1959) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Montreal Maroons and New York Americans between 1927 and 1933. Much of his career, which spanned 1915 through 1933, was spent in various minor leagues. Biography Walsh was one of the first back-up goaltenders in NHL history, as the Montreal Maroons kept him as a spare for the great Clint Benedict in case of injury. He played one game during the 1926–27 season and one game in 1927–28. In 1928–29, Roy Worters was suspended by NHL president Frank Calder for not reporting to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Worters was sold to the New York Americans, but the Pirates failed to inform Calder of these arrangements and Calder, on his dignity, refused to lift Worters' suspension. James Andrew Walsh (20 November 1908 – 17 May 1985) was an Irish hurler. Early life He was born in Waterford, Ireland, the son of James Walsh of New Ross, Co. Wexford, and Ellen Stafford of Carrick-on-Bannow, Co. Wexford. He attended Mount Sion school in Waterford City, the first school founded and run by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. The Irish Christian Brothers were staunch champions of Irish nationalism, the Irish Language Revival and Irish sports. Mount Sion established a tradition of hurling, which attracted Jimmy as a youth. James Bernard "J.B." Remandaban Walsh, OLY (born December 23, 1986) is an American-born competition swimmer who represented the Philippines in the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics.
