James W. Hill
James W. Hill (c. 1791 – 1864) was an American farmer, lawyer, and politician. He served in the first session of the Michigan House of Representatives. Biography James Hill was born in Rhode Island in about 1791. By 1820, he was living in Grafton, New York, and by 1830 in Orangeville, New York. Hill was the first settler in what is now Freedom Township in Washtenaw County, Michigan, when he moved there in June 1831 and built the first house and barn and planted the first wheat field in the area. In 1835, Hill was elected as a Democrat to the first session of the Michigan House of Representatives following the adoption of the state's constitution. He taught school for several years and was a director of Miller's Bank of Washtenaw. He transferred operation of the farm to his son Hanson in 1844 and moved to Manchester, Michigan, where he practiced law. Prescott is a city in Pierce County, Wisconsin, Pierce County, Wisconsin at the confluence of the St. Croix River (Wisconsin-Minnesota), St. Croix River and Mississippi River. Manchester is a village in Manchester Township within Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,037 at the 2020 census. History Chicago Road In 1824 the United States Congress passed the General Survey Act, intended to create and maintain military roads through what was then the west of the country. One third of the funds allocated went to build a road between the strategic army posts of Detroit and Fort Dearborn, at the little town of Chicago. Known as the Chicago Road, it followed the old Sauk Trail and opened the entire area for settlement. Grafton is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 2,130 at the 2010 census. It is believed that the town received its name from Grafton, Vermont, where the first town supervisor, Nathaniel Dumbleton, was originally from. The town is an interior town near the north-central part of the county. NY Route 2 passes across the town. Grafton is notable for having a Peace Pagoda, built by Nipponzan Myohoji buddhist order in 1993.
