James Alfred Turner
James Alfred Turner (J. A. Turner, 1850–1908) was an Australian painter. Turner recorded in painstaking detail the life and daily pursuits of the small rural settler in the mountain ranges to the north and north east of Melbourne, the capital of the State of Victoria, Australia. At the time this was “battlers country”, life was hard and pleasures simple. Photography was alive and well in Turners time, yet no camera could have captured the spirit of an age and lifestyle like he did. He painted in great detail and his pictures provide vibrant studies of daily life. He should be studied and valued for this skill alone. This was his great unrecognised contribution to Australian art. Turner was quite prolific and his style instantly recognisable. Like S. T. Jamie Turner
Jamie Turner (born 12 August 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). Son of Collingwood premiership player Ken, Jamie would also play with the Magpies, making his debut in 1984 coming across from Montmorency. Turner established himself as a top wingman, but had the versatility to play at either end of the ground. James Turner (silversmith)
James Turner (March 18, 1721 - before December 10, 1759) was an American silversmith and engraver, active in Boston and Philadelphia. Turner was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts, worked as a silversmith and engraver from 1744 to 1752 in Boston, and from 1754 to 1757 in Philadelphia. One of his early commissions was an engraving of Boston for the cover of the American Magazine, July 1745, for whom Benjamin Franklin served as a publishing agent. Through his recommendations Turner received a number of commissions. While in Boston, he engraved John Franklin's bookplate, maps for James Alexander's ''Bill in the Chancery of New-Jersey'' (N.Y., 1747), and probably Lewis Evans' drawings for the Franklin stove pamphlet. James Crewdson Turner (born June 25, 1946) is an intellectual historian and Cavanaugh Professor of Humanities Emeritus at the University of Notre Dame. After receiving his PhD from Harvard University in 1975, he taught at the College of Charleston (1975–1977), the University of Massachusetts Boston (1977–1984), and the University of Michigan (1984–1995) before moving to Notre Dame. In 1980, James authored ''Reckoning with the Beast: Animals, Pain, and Humanity in the Victorian Mind'', which documented the history of animal welfare that emerged in Britain during the early 19th-century and spread to the United States after the Civil War. James Luther "J.L." Turner (February 28, 1891 - April 19, 1964) was the founder of J.L. Turner and Son, the predecessor of Dollar General. Early life James Turner was born on February 28, 1891 to Johnnie and Nancy Turner. His father died in an accident in 1902, resulting in Turner leaving school and finding a job. James never returned to school, and did not learn how to read. Career Turner married in 1908 to Josephine Marcum. He decided to get into retail by opening a bridal shop with Josephine. The bridal shop lasted one year and they moved to Kentucky where he opened a country store. After four years the country store closed. After his country store closed down, Turner worked as a salesman for a wholesale grocery company and then a dry goods retailer in Nashville. During the Great Depression, Turner was a traveling salesman and liquidated merchandise of bankrupt general stores. James Smith Turner (27 May 1832 – 22 February 1904) was a Scottish dentist, known for his role in dental surgery regulation. Life Born in Edinburgh on 27 May 1832, he was son of Joseph Turner and Catherine Smith his wife; his father, a hatter, was known as a political speaker against the Corn Laws. At the age 14 Turner was apprenticed to a dentist Mr. Mien of Edinburgh.
