James Skibo
James M. Skibo (born January 7, 1960) is an American archaeologist and currently is the Wisconsin State Archaeologist. His archaeological research focuses on the production and use of ceramics as well as the theory of archaeology and ethnoarchaeology. He is mainly concerned with the Great Lakes, the Southwest United States, and the Philippines. Education and career Skibo studied anthropology at Northern Michigan University from 1978 to 1982 and received a Bachelor of Science, Magna cum laude. He then attended the University of Arizona from 1982 to 1990 studying with the late William A. Longacre and Michael Brian Schiffer. There he received a Master of Arts in 1984 and a Ph.D. in anthropology in 1990. Since 1992 he has been at Illinois State University, where he taught as an assistant professor from 1992 to 1995, as an associate professor from 1996 to 2001, and since 2001 as a full professor. Northern Michigan University (Northern Michigan, Northern or NMU) is a public university in Marquette, Michigan. The ''Journal of Archaeological Method and Theory'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal which focuses on methodology and theory in archaeology. It is published quarterly by Springer Science+Business Media. The journal originated in an annual edited volume series, ''Advances in Archaeological Method and Theory'', established by Michael Schiffer in 1978. The purpose of the series was to publish review articles covering current issues in archaeological theory. It was published by Academic Press between 1978 and 1987, and by Plenum Press between 1989 and 1993 as ''Archaeological Method and Theory''. The series moved to a quarterly journal format in 1994, in order to expand its scope from reviews to other types of papers. Schiffer continued as editor until 2000. Kalinga Ethnoarchaeological Project
The Kalinga Ethnoarchaeological Project (KEP), based in the Cordillera Mountains of the Philippines, was one of the longest-running ethnoarchaeological projects in the world. It was initiated by William Longacre, professor at the University of Arizona, in 1973. Lasting for almost 20 years, research focused on pottery production, use, exchange, and discard, and was carried out by Longacre and his team of Kalinga assistants, archaeology students, and colleagues.
