James S. Moose
James Sayle Moose Jr. (October 3, 1903 – January 19, 1989) was an American diplomat and ambassador to several countries. Early life Moose was born in Morrilton, Arkansas in 1903. After studying at the Kentucky Military Institute and graduating in 1922 from the University of Missouri at 18, he married Eleanor Duncan Wood of Maysville, Kentucky also in 1922. He then moved to Little Rock Arkansas and then to his hometown for a period of five years. In 1928 he joined the Foreign Service. Career His diplomatic work would span the globe, though focused on the Middle East. Thessaloniki, Greece was given to him as a debut assignment, where he served as vice consul. Soon afterward he went to Paris, where he studied Arabic, Amharic, French, and Turkish at the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales, but by 1933 he was back in the Middle East with a posting in Baghdad. Morrilton, Arkansas
Morrilton is a city in Conway County, Arkansas, United States, less than northwest of Little Rock. The city is the county seat of Conway County. The population was 6,992 at the 2020 United States census. History In 1825 a trading post was established about a mile south of present-day Morrilton on the Arkansas River. This town, later named Lewisburg, thrived after being incorporated in 1844. In 1871 the Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad built track through present day Morrilton. It was later named Morrilton after the previous landowners E.J. and George H. Morrill. The downtown grew around the Morrills' land and that owned by James M. Moose. Residents of Lewisburg eventually moved away from the river and to the railroad hub at Morrilton. In 1883 Morrilton became the seat of Conway County, Arkansas. Ambassadors Of The United States To Saudi Arabia
The United States recognized the government of King Ibn Saud in 1931, but it was not until 1939 when it appointed its first U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bert Fish, then resident in Cairo and ambassador to Egypt. Fish made one trip down to Jeddah in 1940 to meet the King and present his credentials, but it was not until after his mission was terminated that a legation was established there on May 1, 1942. The position was most recently occupied by John Abizaid from June 16, 2019 to January 20, 2021. He presented his credentials to King Salman on June 16, 2019. Charles W
The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. The ''Charles W'' was the last of the company's fleet of ships, which numbered twelve at its height. The boat was acquired in 2002 by the nonprofit Friends of the ''Charles W''.
