James S. Davenport
James Sanford Davenport (September 21, 1864 – January 3, 1940) was a U.S. Representative from Oklahoma and a member of the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. Bird Segle McGuire (October 13, 1865 – November 9, 1930) was an American politician, a Delegate and the last U.S. Representative from Oklahoma Territory. After statehood, he was elected as an Oklahoma member of Congress, where he served four consecutive terms. He retired from politics in 1915. He was a cousin of William Neville. Early life Born in Belleville, Illinois, McGuire moved to Randolph County, Missouri with his parents in 1867. He attended public school, and moved to Chautauqua County, Kansas, in the spring of 1881; and then to Indian Territory. He engaged in the cattle business, and attended the State Normal School at Emporia, Kansas. Career McGuire taught for several terms, and later attended the law department of the University of Kansas at Lawrence.
