James Robb (politician)
James Alexander Robb, (10 August 1859 – November 11, 1929) was a Canadian Member of Parliament and cabinet minister. Robb was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. He served as Liberal Party Whip from 1919 to 1921. Henry Herbert Stevens
Henry Herbert Stevens, (December 8, 1878 – June 14, 1973) was a Canadian politician and businessman. A member of R. B. Bennett's cabinet, he split with the Conservative Prime Minister to found the Reconstruction Party of Canada. Early life Stevens was born in Bristol, England and immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of nine. His family settled in Peterborough, Ontario where his widowed father raised him and his three brothers and sisters. The family moved to Vernon, British Columbia, in 1894 and Stevens found his first job there, as a grocery clerk, at the age of 16. He then went to northern British Columbia to work in the mining camps before working as a fireman on the Canadian Pacific Railway and later as a stagecoach driver. In 1899 he joined the United States Army, and travelled to the Philippines and then to China, where he was present during the Boxer Rebellion, before returning to British Columbia in 1901. Prior to the 1917 federal election in Canada, the Liberal Party of Canada split into two factions. To differentiate the groups, historians tend to use two retrospective names: * The Laurier Liberals, who opposed conscription of soldiers to support Canada's involvement in World War I and who were led by former Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier; and * The Liberal Unionists who joined Sir Robert Borden's Unionist government. Seeking broader support for the imposition of conscription in 1917, Borden invited the Liberals into a wartime coalition government with the Conservatives. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, an opponent of conscription who feared for the nation if an opposition was not represented in Parliament, refused the request. Despite Laurier's refusal, the request split the Liberal Party largely along linguistic lines. Thomas Andrew Low, (March 12, 1871 – February 9, 1931) was a Canadian industrialist and politician. Born in Quebec City, Quebec, the son of Alexander George Low and Margaret Henderson, he was educated in Pembroke, Ontario and became a manufacturer in Renfrew. Low was president of Renfrew Flour Mills, Renfrew Electric Products, the Renfrew Refrigerator Company, the Renfrew Manufacturing Company and the British Canadian Export Company. Robert Nelson Walsh (October 6, 1864 – December 31, 1938) was a Canadian politician. Born in Huntingdon, Canada East, Walsh was educated at the Huntingdon Academy and McGill University. A veterinary surgeon, he was for twelve years a Town Councillor in Huntingdon and Mayor for six years. He has been Warden of the county and served on the School Board.
