James Power (ice Hockey)
James "Rocket" Power (February 9, 1884 – April 6, 1920) was a Canadian ice hockey player who was active from 1900 to 1913. Rocket played on the 1904 Quebec Bulldogs CAHL championship team. That year, Quebec did not challenge for the Stanley Cup. He also played one regular season game for Quebec Bulldogs 1913 Stanley Cup champion team. Early life He was born in Sillery to William Power and Susan Winnifred Rockett. His nickname "Rocket" came from his mother's maiden name. His father was a member of the House of Commons of Canada, and three of his brothers also had political careers: William Gerard Power was a member of the Legislative Council of Quebec; Joe also played ice hockey and was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec; Charles "Chubby" Power also played ice hockey, and later became a member of the Senate of Canada. Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). Charles Gavan Power
Charles Gavan "Chubby" Power, (18 January 1888 – 30 May 1968) was a Canadian politician and ice hockey player. Many members of his family, including his father, two brothers, a son and a grandson, all had political careers; two of his brothers also played ice hockey. Early life Born in Sillery, Power played ice hockey while studying law. From 1906, he played for the Quebec Bulldogs of the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association (ECAHA). A proficient scorer, he scored four goals in one game in 1908 and five goals in a game in 1909. Military service Power served overseas in World War I, first as a private in the Westmount Battalion then to 3rd Battalion (Toronto Regiment), CEF as captain and then as an acting major with the 14th Battalion (Royal Montreal Regiment), CEF. The Quebec Bulldogs (french: Bulldogs de Québec) were a men's senior-level ice hockey team based in Quebec City. The team was officially known as the Quebec Hockey Club (french: Club de hockey de Québec), and later as the Quebec Athletic Club (french: Club athlétique de Québec). One of the first organized ice hockey clubs, the club debuted in 1878 with the opening of the Quebec Skating Rink. Lawrence Cannon
Lawrence Cannon, (born December 6, 1947) is a Canadian politician from Quebec and Prime Minister Stephen Harper's former Quebec lieutenant. In early 2006, he was made the Minister of Transport. On October 30, 2008, he relinquished oversight of Transport and was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was defeated in the 2011 federal election by the NDP's Mathieu Ravignat. He was appointed as Canadian Ambassador to France in May 2012, and he served in that position until September 2017. Frank Power (politician)
Joseph Francis Gavan Power (13 June 1918 – 1973) was a Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Montreal, Quebec and became a lawyer by career. Frank Power was a veteran of the Canadian Army. He became a prisoner of war of the Imperial Japanese Army, Japanese Imperial Army when Hong Kong fell on Christmas Day of 1941. He like other allied prisoners of war suffered from the inhumane treatment administered by the Japanese, and bore the scars for the remainder of his life. He was first elected at the Quebec South riding in a 26 September 1955 by-election succeeding his father, Charles Gavan Power, who was appointed to the Senate.
