James "Spike" O'Toole (December 7, 1929 – December 1, 1973) was an Irish-American criminal from Dorchester, Massachusetts. Biography James "Jimmy" O'Toole was born to first generation Irish immigrants from County Cork, Ireland. He was a close friend of the leader of the Winter Hill Gang of Somerville, Massachusetts, James "Buddy" McLean. He was targeted for assassination by the McLaughlin Brothers gang (the Charlestown Mob) of Charlestown, when a Cambridge Winter Hill Gang founding member and bank robber named Ronald P. Dermody fell in love with his twenty-nine-year-old German-English girlfriend-mistress Dorothy Barchard. Dorothy was also the stepmother of Joseph Dermody, the son of Joseph from a previous marriage. Vincent James Flemmi (September 5, 1935 – October 16, 1979), also known as "Jimmy The Bear", was an American mobster who freelanced for the Winter Hill Gang and the Patriarca crime family. He was also a longtime informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was also the brother of government informant Stephen Flemmi. Stephen Joseph Flemmi (born June 9, 1934) is an American gangster and convicted murderer and was a close associate of Winter Hill Gang boss Whitey Bulger. Beginning in 1975, Flemmi was a top echelon informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Joseph Barboza
Joseph Barboza Jr. (; September 20, 1932 – February 11, 1976), nicknamed "the Animal", was an American mobster and notorious mob hitman for the Patriarca crime family of New England during the 1960s. A prominent enforcer and contract killer in Boston's underworld, Barboza became a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) informant in 1967 and later entered the Witness Protection Program.
