James O'Brien (hurler)
James O'Brien (born 1983 in Bruree, County Limerick) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Bruree and has been a member of the Limerick and Kerry senior inter-county teams at various times since 2003. In 2007 he helped Tralee IT win the Ryan Cup and won a Higher Education All Star the only player outside the Fitzgibbon Cup to do so in 2007. The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The Fitzgibbon Cup ( ga, Corn Mhic Giobúin) is the trophy for the premier hurling championship among higher education institutions (universities, colleges and institutes of technology) in Ireland. The Fitzgibbon Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. Comhairle Ard Oideachais also oversees the Ryan Cup (tier 2 hurling championship), the Fergal Maher Cup (tier 3 hurling championship) and the Padraig MacDiarmada (tier 4 hurling championship). Limerick Senior Hurling Championship
The Limerick Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bon Secours Hospital County Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Limerick SHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Limerick in Ireland. It is the most prestigious competition in Limerick hurling. Brian Geary
Brian Geary (born 1980) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Limerick senior team. Geary made his first appearance for the team during the 1999 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 2012 championship. A two-time All-Ireland medalist in the under-21 grade, he enjoyed little success as a member of the county senior team. Geary ended up an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Geary is a four-time county football championship medalist with Monaleen. Playing career Club Geary has enjoyed much success as a Gaelic footballer with the Monaleen club. Mark Foley (born 17 April 1975 in Cork (city), Cork, Ireland) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Adare GAA, Adare and was a member of the Limerick GAA, Limerick senior inter-county team from 1995 until 2009. Early life Mark Foley was born in Cork (city), Cork in 1975 and when he was nine months old his family moved to Adare, County Limerick. He was born into a family that had a great interest in Gaelic games. His father would later serve as a selector with the Limerick GAA, Limerick senior hurling team. Foley was educated locally and later attended Mary Immaculate College in Limerick where he studied to be a primary school teacher.
