James Leach (composer)
James Leach (baptised 25 December 1761, died 8 February 1798) was an English composer of nonconformist church music. Life He was born in Wardle, Rochdale, Lancashire. He became a hand-loom weaver, but having studied music in his leisure hours, ultimately devoted himself entirely to the art. He early attained proficiency as a player, and was made a member of the king's band. He gained some distinction both as a teacher and choir-leader, and as a countertenor singer took a prominent part in the Westminster Abbey and other musical festivals. He removed about 1795 to Salford, where he died from the effects of a stage-coach accident on 8 February 1798. James Edgar Leach Victoria Cross, VC (27 July 1892 – 15 August 1958) was a British Army officer and England, English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth forces. Leach was 22 years old, and a Second Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion, The Manchester Regiment, in France during the World War I, First World War. The 2nd Manchesters formed part of 5th Infantry Division (United Kingdom), 5 Division, which had crossed the Béthune–La Bassée canal and then came under heavy attack. On 29 October 1914, near Festubert, the following deed took place for which Leach and Sergeant John Hogan (VC), John Hogan were awarded the VC. James Dickson Leach, OBE, JP (19 July 1912 – 23 February 1992) was a British businessman in Hong Kong. He was an unofficial member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong in the 1960s. Leach was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in July 1912. He was an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and worked with the Union Insurance Society of Canton and became the director and general manager of the company in 1959 after L. B. Stone retired from the office. He also served at the Hongkong Electric Company among other companies. He was elected chair of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce in 1967. James Madison Leach (January 17, 1815 – June 1, 1891) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from North Carolina. Leach was born on his family's homestead, "Lansdowne", in Randolph County, North Carolina, January 17, 1815. He attended the common schools and Caldwell Institute in Greensboro, North Carolina. He entered the US Military Academy in 1836, but resigned in 1838 and returned to North Carolina to study law. He was admitted to the bar in 1842. Leach began his law practice in Lexington, North Carolina, and served in the North Carolina House of Commons, State house of commons from 1848 to 1858.
