James Derick Kirkland is an American professional boxer who held the regional WBO– NABO junior middleweight title in 2008. He was one of boxing's most prominent junior middleweight prospects in the late 2000s and early 2010s, until an 18-month prison stint set his career back significantly. Nicknamed the "Mandingo Warrior", Kirkland is known for being a highly aggressive southpaw pressure fighter with formidable punching power, having scored 88% of his victories via knockout. Amateur career Kirkland has an amateur record of 134–12 and won the Silver Gloves championship four years in a row and lost on a controversial decision to James Patterson in the finals of the National Golden Gloves. James Hampton Kirkland
James Hampton Kirkland (September 9, 1859 – August 5, 1939) was an American Latinist and university administrator. He served as the second chancellor of Vanderbilt University from 1893 to 1937. Early life James Hampton Kirkland was born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina. His father, William Clark, was a Methodist pastor. His mother, Virginia Lawson Galluchat Kirkland, lived in Abilene, Texas, by the early 1880s. Kirkland was educated at Wofford College in Spartanburg. Two of his teachers were William Malone Baskervill and Charles Forster Smith. It was Smith who suggested to Kirkland that he should study in Germany. As a result, he left the United States in 1883. Kirkland enrolled at Leipzig University, where he studied "Greek, Latin, Sanskrit, and Anglo-Saxon". He received a PhD from Leipzig University in 1885. His PhD thesis was published in 1886 as a pamphlet entitled ''A Study of the Anglo-Saxon Poem, the Harrowing of Hell (Grein's Hollenfahrt Christi)''.

James Kirkland ( fl. 1730) was an Irish giant and a member of the Potsdam Giants who served under Frederick William I of Prussia, known as the "Soldier King" and was a native of Ballygar, Ardagh, County Longford County Longford ( gle, Contae an Longfoirt) is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Leinster. It is named after the town of Longford. Longford County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 46,6 .... His height is described at bottom of the painting as "6 Fus 8 Zoll". From Prussian measurements this converts to 217 centimetres or 7 feet 1 inches. Kirkland was in 1730 a footman to Baron Borck, at the time Prussian Ambassador to London. Borck, however, did not really need a footman, and had Kirkland forcibly impressed upon a Prussian ship at Portsmouth, where he was press-ganged into the Potsdam Guards. James Robert Kirkland (February 15, 1903 – February 25, 1958) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Education and career Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Kirkland received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from George Washington University in 1927, a Bachelor of Laws from George Washington University Law School in 1928, and a Master of Laws from the same institution in 1929. He received a Bachelor of Commercial Science degree from Benjamin Franklin University (merged into George Washington University in 1987) in 1930. Kirkland served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Washington, D.C. from 1929 to 1934, then entered private practice in Washington, D.C. from 1934 to 1949.
