James Jennings (MP)
James Jennings (1670–1739) of Shiplake was an English landowner and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1710 and 1722. Jennings was baptised on 26 June 1670, the eldest son of Robert Jennings, of Shiplake and his wife Mary Jennens daughter of James Jennens of Long Wittenham, Berkshire. His father, Robert was headmaster of John Roysse's Free School in Abingdon (now Abingdon School) from 1657 to 1683 where James was educated. He matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford on 5 July 1686, aged 16; He married Frances Constantine, daughter of Harry Constantine of Merley and Lake, Dorset in 1698. In 1704, he succeeded his father to the Shiplake estate. Jennings substituted for his father as High Sheriff of Oxfordshire in the year 1694 to 1695. He was returned as Member of Parliament for Abingdon at a by-election on 13 December 1710. He associated with the Tories being one of the ‘Worthy patriots’. James Ryan Jennings (born 2 September 1987) is a former English professional footballer who played as a defender. He is currently Head of Professional Player Support at Stockport County. Jim Jennings (basketball)
James Jennings (March 14, 1941 – September 1, 2014) was an American basketball player, best known for his college career at Murray State University where he was the 1964 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and led the Racers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. Jennings was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and at a young age his family moved to Dayton, Ohio. He starred at Dayton's Wilbur Wright High School where he was selected to play in the Ohio North/South All-Star game. Freshmen were ineligible to play in Jennings' era, but he made the most of his three-year career. As a sophomore, Jennings averaged 20.5 points and 17.2 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. As a junior, he averaged 17.6 points and 16.1 rebounds and finished second in the OVC Player of the Year balloting to Morehead State's Harold Sergent.
