James J. Toner
James J. "Jimmy" Toner (born July 7, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. At age nineteen in April 1960 he got his first win as a trainer, making him the youngest to ever win a Thoroughbred horse race in State of New York. Colonial Turf Cup
The Commonwealth Turf Cup is an American Thoroughbred horse race held each year since 2015 at Laurel Park in Laurel, Maryland. It was previously known as the Colonial Turf Cup when it was held at Colonial Downs race track in New Kent County, Virginia. It is raced on turf at a distance of one mile and is open to horses aged three years old and up. The current purse is $200,000. In 2009, the race was upgraded from a Grade III to a Grade II event. In 2011, the race changed its conditions to allow entry of older horses. This change caused the race to lose its graded status until 2013, when it again became a Grade II event. From 2005 to 2013, the race was run at miles. For the 2015 renewal, the distance was shortened to miles, and in 2016 to 1 mile. Winter Memories
Winter Memories (foaled April 24, 2008 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. As a two-year-old, she won the Miss Grillo Stakes and finished second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Next year, she returned with the win in the Appalachian Stakes, the Sands Point Stakes, the Lake George Stakes, and the Garden City Stakes. As a four-year-old, she won the Beaugay Stakes and the Diana Stakes. She is now retired and living at Darby Dan Farm. Owned and breed by Phillips Racing Partnership, she is trained by James J. Toner. Soaring Softly (1995 in Kentucky – 2015) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse whose biggest win came in the 1999 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. She originally raced on dirt, with limited success. Switched to turf at age four, she won seven of eight starts and was named the American Champion Female Turf Horse. Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf
The Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf is a Weight for Age Thoroughbred horse race on turf for fillies and mares, three years old and up. It is held annually at a different racetrack in the United States as part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. The race is run at either or , depending on the turf course configuration at the Breeders' Cup host track. For tracks which can accommodate either distance (Belmont, Woodbine, and Santa Anita ), it is run at miles.
