Lancashire was a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of England from 1290, then of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800, and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1832. It was represented by two Members of Parliament, traditionally known as Knights of the Shire until 1832. The ancient county of Lancashire covers a much larger area than the area now administered by Lancashire County Council. The county town of Lancaster is in the north of the county. The county boundary is further north beyond Carnforth and follows approximately the same boundary as the modern County Council area. The historic county of Lancashire also includes land on the opposite side of Morecambe Bay. James Maden Holt
James Maden Holt (18 October 1829 – 19 September 1911) was an English Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1868 to 1880. Holt was the son of John Holt of Stubbylee and his wife Judith Maden, daughter of James Maden of Green's House. He was educated at Wellesley House School, St. John's Wood, and at Christ Church, Oxford graduating with M.A. in 1855. He was a J.P. for Lancashire. At the 1868 general election Holt was elected Member of Parliament for North East Lancashire. James Holt (scholar)
James Daniel Holt is a British scholar of Latter-day Saint religion and history and is Associate Professor of Religious Education at the University of Chester. Biography Holt served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in the Scotland Edinburgh Mission (1991–93). During this time, his mission presidents were Joseph Fielding McConkie and Ian D. Swanney. Returning from his mission, Holt completed a BA in theology and history at Chester College, then part of the University of Liverpool. On conclusion of those studies, he trained as a secondary school teacher in history and religious studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. Holt then taught religious studies in two Manchester schools for 12 years before taking up his current role at the University of Chester. James Richard Holt (2 August 1931 – 20 September 1991) was a British politician and Conservative Member of Parliament. Political career Holt first stood for Parliament, unsuccessfully, at Brent South in the February 1974 General Election. He was elected for Langbaurgh at the 1983 election and was re-elected in 1987. James William Holt (May 27, 1944 – March 29, 2019) was an American professional baseball outfielder and first baseman. Career He graduated from Graham High School (North Carolina), also known as Graham Colored High School, and was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics in 1965. He was also drafted by the U.S. and his subsequent service in Vietnam delayed the start of his professional baseball career. He made his major league debut on April 17, 1968 and played his last game on October 3, 1976. On the Arizona Instructional League team in 1967, Holt batted a team-best .367 on the Athletics' affiliated squad that also included Vida Blue, Bert Campaneris, Rollie Fingers, and Reggie Jackson. Holt was an outfielder and first baseman with the Minnesota Twins from 1968–74 and Oakland Athletics from 1974–76. Jim L. Holt (born January 17, 1965) is an American Baptist minister and a conservative Republican politician from Springdale in northwestern Arkansas. Background Holt was born in Camden in Ouachita County, southern Arkansas. He joined the military in 1987 and served in the U.S. Army Joint Intelligence Operations at the National Security Agency. James Holt Clanton (January 8, 1827 – September 27, 1871) was an American soldier, lawyer, legislator, and was later also a Confederate combatant. He enlisted in the United States Army for service during the Mexican–American War, and later was a Confederate Army brigadier general during the American Civil War. Following the war he returned to practicing law and later was murdered in a private feud in Tennessee. Early life and career Clanton was born in 1827 in Columbia County, Georgia, a son of Nathaniel Holt Clanton. In 1835 the family relocated to Macon County, Alabama, where Clanton was raised and educated. Later he attended the University of Alabama located in Tuscaloosa, but he did not graduate.
