Jimmy "Duck" Holmes (born July 28, 1947) is an American blues musician and proprietor of the Blue Front Cafe on the Mississippi Blues Trail, the oldest surviving juke joint in Mississippi. Holmes is known as the last of the Bentonia bluesmen, as he is the last blues musician to play the Bentonia School. Like Skip James and Jack Owens (blues singer), Jack Owens and other blues musicians from Bentonia, Mississippi, Holmes learned to play the blues from Henry Stuckey, the originator of the Bentonia blues. Holmes' music is based in the Bentonia tuning utilizing open E-minor, open D-minor and a down tuned variant, and is noted for its haunting, ethereal, rhythmic and hypnotic qualities. Jimmy Holmes (trade Unionist)
James Holmes (1850 – 1911) was a British trade union leader and politician. Holmes began working in a knitwear factory, initially as a winding boy on hand frames, and later moved over to run powered knitting frames. In the early 1870s, he was a supporter of republicanism, and of Charles Bradlaugh and the National Secular Society. Around the middle of the decade, he was elected to the executive of the Leicester and Leicestershire Framework Knitters' Union, and was soon regarded as the leading trade unionist among the machine knitters. In 1881, Holmes began working for the union, but he was unhappy with its focus on hand knitting, and in 1885, he led a split of machine knitters, to form the Leicester and Leicestershire Amalgamated Hosiery Union. Always one of its leading figures, he led a major strike in 1886, which ended with some concessions being made, and thereafter became its general secretary. James Headgoose Holmes (19 March 1861 – 1 October 1934) was a British people, British trade unionist and political activist. Born in Frampton, Lincolnshire, Holmes left education at the age of nine to work on a farm, and at the age of eleven, briefly became a sailor. He then returned to farm labour in Lincolnshire, but lost his job when he tried to organise a strike. James Black Holmes (born 8 December 1954) is a Scottish former footballer. Career Holmes began his career at junior club Muirkirk, before moving into the senior game with Partick Thistle before becoming a legend at Greenock Morton. He won three Scottish First Division winners medals: 1977–78, 1983–84 and 1986–87. In May 1987, after being voted the SPFA First Division Footballer of the Year, he captained the Scottish semi-professionals in an end of season tournament against Holland, England & Italy. James Paul Holmes (born 11 November 1953) is an Irish former professional footballer. Hailing from Meath Square in The Liberties, he won 30 full international caps for the Republic of Ireland, scoring once. Career Holmes, a left-back, began his career with St. John Bosco. He joined Coventry City as apprentice and was a member of the FA Youth Cup Final side in 1970. He turned professional in November 1970 and became the Republic of Ireland's youngest ever full international at 17 years, 200 days when he came on as a 74th-minute substitute for Don Givens in the 4–1 defeat in the European Championship Qualifier against Austria at Dalymount Park on 30 May 1971.
