Life

Coffin was born on September 6, 1806, in Williamsburg, Massachusetts. He was descended from Tristram Coffin (Nantucket), Tristram Coffin, the first owner of Nantucket Island. Coffin was an orphan, and was raised by his uncle, the Reverend Moses Hallock.Memoir of James Henry Coffin, 1806–1873.

Williamsburg is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 2,504 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The area was first settled in 1735 and was officially incorporated in 1771.
