James H. Snook
James Howard Snook (September 17, 1879 – February 28, 1930) was an American athlete, veterinarian, and murderer. He is the only Olympic gold medalist to be executed for murder. Biography Snook was a member of the U.S. Olympic Pistol Team, which won a Gold Medal in the Shooting at the 1920 Summer Olympics – Men's 30 metre team military pistol, Men's 30 metre team military pistol event at the 1920 Summer Olympics, 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. Later, Snook was the head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State University. He invented the snook hook, a surgical instrument which is still used in Neutering, spaying animals. He also was a founding member of the Alpha Psi veterinary fraternity. Snook was convicted of murdering Theora Hix, a 24-year-old medical student with whom he had had a three-year sexual affair. South Lebanon, Ohio
South Lebanon is a city located in Union and Hamilton Townships in central Warren County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 4,115 at the 2010 census. History The first settlement at South Lebanon was made in the 1790s. The village was originally called "Deerfield" because it was the chief settlement of Deerfield Township, Warren County, Ohio, but renamed because of its proximity to the county seat of Lebanon. The new name of "South Lebanon" was adopted when the railroad was built through the neighborhood. A post office was established under the name Deerfield Village in 1828, and the name of the post office was changed to South Lebanon in 1871.
