James Faulkner (Livingston County, New York)
James Faulkner (January 21, 1790 in Cambridge, Washington County, New York – October 19, 1884 in Dansville, Livingston County, New York) was an American physician, manufacturer, banker and politician from New York. Life He was the son of Samuel Faulkner (1765–1805) and Catherine (Phoenix) Faulkner (b. 1768). In 1796, his family removed to Dansville, then a settlement in the Town of Sparta, in Ontario County, now a village in the Town of North Dansville in Livingston County. In 1801, he and his father remove to Geneseo where his father died in 1805. In 1807, Faulkner went to Painted Post to study medicine. In 1811, he was licensed to practice, and commenced the practice of medicine in Bath. On May 12, 1812, he married Minerva Hammond (1795–1855), and returned to Dansville. James Albert Faulkner (October 7, 1877 April 27, 1944) was a Canadian medical practitioner, public servant and a cabinet Minister in the Ontario government. Background Faulkner was born in Stirling, Ontario and was of United Empire Loyalist heritage. Initially graduating from McMaster University in 1900 with a degree in arts, he went to McGill University for further education in medicine and graduated in 1904. He set up his medical practice at Foxboro, Ontario and stayed there until 1918 when he moved to Belleville. He served as the Medical Officer of Health for Thurlow Township for 27 years. Politics In 1934 he ran for the Liberal Party of Ontario in Hastings West, a predominantly Conservative riding, and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. James Hugh Faulkner, (March 9, 1933 – April 18, 2016) was a Canadian politician. He completed his BA at McGill University and his MBA at the International Management Institute (IMI) in Geneva, Switzerland. Life and career Faulkner was born in Montreal. A businessman by profession, Faulkner entered politics as the Liberal candidate in Peterborough, Ontario in the 1962 federal election. He came in third behind Progressive Conservative candidate Fred Stenson, and incumbent Walter Pitman of the New Democratic Party. Faulkner again placed third behind Fred Stenson and Pitman in the 1963 federal election before prevailing in the 1965 election. In 1967 he represented Canada to the 22nd UN General Assembly and chaired the Labour and employment Committee of the House of Commons. He was re-elected in the 1968 election and was appointed Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada. In 1970, he was made parliamentary secretary to the Secretary of State for Canada.
