James F. Rea
James F. Rea (born September 7, 1937) is an American politician. Rea was born in Mulkeytown, Illinois. He served in the United States Military. Rea received his bachelor's and master's degree in agriculture community development from the Southern Illinois University. Rea lived with his wife and family in Christopher, Illinois. Rea served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1979 to 1989 and was a Democrat. After Glenn Poshard was elected to the United States House of Representatives, Rea was appointed to the Illinois Senate. Rea was succeeded in the House by Larry D. Woolard. Rea then served in the Illinois Senate from 1989 to 1999. Mulkeytown is an unincorporated and census-designated place in Franklin County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 175. Geography Mulkeytown is located south of Chicago (via I-57 south to IL 14 west), and southeast of St. Louis (via I-64 east to US 51 south to IL 14 east). Mulkeytown is located on Illinois Route 184, west of Christopher, in Tyrone Township, in the west-central portion of Franklin County. Sesser, Illinois
Sesser is a city in Franklin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,931 at the 2010 census. The current mayor is C. Jason Ashmore. History In summer 1904, when coal was discovered at today's Sesser, the area was a prairie covered with wheat and corn fields. By 1906, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad had extended its lines south from Centralia to Sesser, and the new town was named after railroad surveyor John Sesser. The first mine in Sesser, the Keller Mine, was sunk in 1905-1906. In 1906, Sesser was incorporated as a village. It re-incorporated as a city in 1909. Old Ben Coal Mine No. 16, also called Sesser Mine, operated from 1905-1923. Subsidence resulting from longwall mining at the Old Ben No. 21 mine, by Old Ben Coal Company, was a concern for some local homeowners in the 1980s.
