James E. Cobb
James Edward Cobb (October 5, 1835 – June 2, 1903) was a U.S. Representative from Alabama. Born in Thomaston, Georgia, Cobb attended the public schools and graduated from Emory College in Oxford, Georgia in June 1856, where he studied law. He was admitted to the bar and practiced law. He moved to Texas in 1857. He entered the Confederate States Army in 1861 as lieutenant in Company F, Fifth Texas Regiment, and served in the Army of Northern Virginia until he was taken prisoner at the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. After his release, he settled in Tuskegee, Alabama, and practiced law until 1874. He served as Circuit judge from 1874 to 1886. He was reelected as a judge in 1886, but before qualifying he was elected to Congress as a Democrat to the Fiftieth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1887 – March 3, 1895). The 50th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1887, to March 4, 1889, during the third and fourth years of Grover Cleveland's first presidency. The president vetoed 212 pieces of legislation, the greatest number in a single session of Congress. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the 1880 United States census. The Senate had a Republican majority, and the House had a Democratic majority. Albert Taylor Goodwyn
Albert Taylor Goodwyn (December 17, 1842 – July 1, 1931) was a U.S. Representative from Alabama. Early life and military career Born at Robinson Springs, Alabama, Goodwyn attended Robinson Springs Academy and South Carolina College at Columbia (now the University of South Carolina). During the Civil War, he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served until June 1865. He was mustered out at the close of the war as captain of a company of sharpshooters and was decorated with the Southern Cross of Honor.He graduated from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, where he was a member of St. Anthony Hall, in 1867. Thomas William Sadler (April 17, 1831 – October 29, 1896) was a U.S. Representative from Alabama. Born near Russellville, Alabama, Sadler moved with his parents to Jefferson County, Alabama, in 1833. He pursued an academic course. He moved to Autauga County, Alabama, in 1855 and engaged in mercantile pursuits. During the Civil War volunteered and served in the division of the Confederate States Army commanded by Gen. Joseph Wheeler. He engaged in agricultural pursuits. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1867 and commenced practice in Prattville, Alabama. County superintendent of education 1875-1884.
