James Dunbar Cook
Rear Admiral James William Dunbar "Bill" Cook (12 December 1921 – 26 January 2007) was a senior Royal Navy officer. Naval career Born on 12 December 1921, James Dunbar Cook was educated at Bedford School and HMS Worcester. He was commander of HMS Venus, HMS Dido and HMS Norfolk. He was senior british naval officer in South Africa, between 1967 and 1969, director of the Royal Naval War College, between 1969 and 1971, and assistant chief of the naval staff, between 1973 and 1975. Elgin, Moray
Elgin (; sco, Ailgin; gd, Eilginn, ) is a town (former cathedral city) and formerly a Royal Burgh in Moray, Scotland. It is the administrative and commercial centre for Moray. The town originated to the south of the River Lossie on the higher ground above the floodplain where the town of Birnie is. There, the church of Birnie Kirk was built in 1140 and serves the community to this day. Elgin is first documented in the Cartulary of Moray in 1190 AD. It was created a royal burgh in the 12th century by King David I of Scotland, and by that time had a castle on top of the present-day Lady Hill to the west of the town. The origin of the name Elgin is likely to be Celtic. It may derive from 'Aille' literally signifying beauty, but in topography a beautiful place or valley. Another possibility is 'ealg', meaning both 'Ireland' and 'worthy'. HMS Norfolk (D21)
HMS ''Norfolk'' (pennant D21) was a of the Royal Navy. She was the fourth Group 2 and the last of the County-class built. The fifth ship named Norfolk, she was laid down on 15 March 1966 by Swan Hunter and launched by Lavinia, Duchess of Norfolk on 16 November 1967. She was commissioned on 7 March 1970. In 1982 she was sold to Chile and served in their navy as ''Capitán Prat'' until 2006 and subsequently sold for scrap. Design ''Norfolk'' is described as a destroyer, rather than a cruiser, because the Royal Navy and First Sea Lord Earl Mountbatten had seen guided missile destroyers as easier to gain approval from the Treasury than cruisers, when the class originated in the late 1950s. Companions Of The Order Of The Bath
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred.
