James Douglas (plumber)
James Sandilands Douglas (16 April 1872 – 2 August 1957) was a New Zealand plumber and politician. He served as mayor of Dunedin from 1921 to 1923. William Begg (mayor)
William Begg (31 May 1870 – 7 January 1950) was a New Zealand businessman and politician. He served as mayor of Dunedin from 1919 to 1921. Biography Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 31 May 1870, Begg was the son of Elizabeth Johnston Begg and John Begg. In 1879, the family migrated to New Zealand in 1879, settling in Dunedin. Begg studied at King Edward Technical College and later at the University of Otago, and trained in his father's sheepskin, mat and rug manufacturing firm, John Begg and Company. As a young man, Begg played rugby union for the North East Valley and Union clubs, was captain and president of the Dunedin Cycling Club, and was a lieutenant in the North Dunedin Rifles. King Edward Technical College
King Edward Technical College is a former school and technical college in Dunedin, New Zealand. The college was established in 1889 as the Dunedin Technical School when the Caledonian Society instigated night education classes. Through the 1960s and 70s, the school was split up and became Otago Polytechnic and Logan Park High School. History In 1893 the Dunedin Technical School was established by the Dunedin Technical Association at property leased on Great King Street. The school offered classes in carpentry, chemistry, cookery, domestic economy, typewriting, and woodcarving, with courses expanded in 1895 and 1896 to include dressmaking, navigation, and plumbing. The Mayor of Dunedin is the head of the local government, the city council of Dunedin, New Zealand. The Mayor's role is "to provide leadership to the other elected members of the territorial authority, be a leader in the community and perform civic duties". Andersons Bay Cemetery
Andersons Bay Cemetery is a major cemetery in the New Zealand city of Dunedin. It is located to the southeast of the city centre, on a rocky outcrop which forms the inland part of Lawyers Head, a promontory which juts into the Pacific Ocean. The cemetery is bounded on the western and southern sides by Chisholm Park Golf Links, and to the east by steep slopes which descend to the Tomahawk Lagoon. Despite its name, the cemetery is located in the suburb of Tahuna, which lies immediately to the south of the suburb of Andersons Bay, and almost from the former (now largely reclaimed) bay itself, at the head of the Otago Harbour. The cemetery is the largest in Dunedin, and as such one of the largest in the South Island.
