James Dearden
James Dearden (born 14 September 1949) is an English film director and screenwriter, the son of Scottish actress Melissa Stribling and English film director Basil Dearden. He directed nine films between 1977 and 2018. His film '' Pascali's Island'' was entered into the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. For writing the screenplay for '' Fatal Attraction'' (1987), Dearden received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Dearden is married to British actress Annabel Brooks. Annabel Brooks (born 1962) is a British actress who has appeared on television and in films since the 1980s. Biography Her first on-screen role came in 1987 when she appeared as Eliza in ''Nightflyers''. ''Rogue Trader'' is a 1999 British biographical drama film written and directed by James Dearden and starring Ewan McGregor and Anna Friel. The film centers on the life of former derivatives broker Nick Leeson and the 1995 collapse of Barings Bank. It was based on Leeson's 1996 book '' Rogue Trader: How I Brought Down Barings Bank and Shook the Financial World''. Basil Dearden
Basil Dearden (born Basil Clive Dear; 1 January 1911 – 23 March 1971) was an English film director. Early life and career Dearden was born at 5, Woodfield Road, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex to Charles James Dear, a steel manufacturer, and his wife, Florence Tripp. Basil Dean Dearden graduated from theatre direction to film, working as an assistant to Basil Dean. He later changed his own name to Dearden to avoid confusion with his mentor. He wrote ''This Man Is News'' (1938), a hugely popular quota quickie and wrote and directed a film for TV ''Under Suspicion'' (1939). He was assistant director on ''Penny Paradise'' (1938), produced by Dean and directed by Carol Reed, and two George Formby comedies directed by Anthony Kimmins: ''George Takes the Air'' (1938), produced by Dean, and '' Come on George!''
