James Day (poet)
James Day () was an English verse-writer whose name and writings are but little known."J. M.". Dec. 1849. p. 606. Works James Day was the author of a 1637 volume of devotional verse, entitled ''A New Spring of Divine Poetrie'', 4to, with an acrostic dedication "To Mistris Bridget Rudge" and commendatory verses by H. G. and T. J. This little volume, perhaps the sole production of his poetical muse, consists of 48 pages, and of divers poems. The first is "The World's Metamorphosis"; it describes the Genesis creation narrative, creation of the earth. The second is "Christ's Birth and Passion". James Milford Day
James Milford Day (11 May 1815 – 22 October 1894) was a 19th-century Texas military figure. He was a member of Mathew Caldwell's and John Coffee Hays, Jack Hay's Seguin Rangers and a participant in the Mexican–American War. Early life and family James Milford Day was born May 11, 1815, in Anderson County, South Carolina. He was the son of Johnson Day and Sarah Hembree. Day accompanied his parents and siblings to Texas in 1835 and became part of the Runaway Scrape, that preceded Sam Houston's march to the battle of San Jacinto in 1836. When returning, the Johnson Day and George Nichols families met Henry B. King and John R. King along with a group bound for Texas near St. Augustine. With the same destination agreed upon, the three groups decided it safer to travel together. The troop arrived at Gonzales, Texas on October 6, 1837. James Plummer Day (August 2, 1831 – October 4, 1905) was an American farmer, agricultural science and education advocate, and Dakota territorial politician. He served as a Councilman for the 16th Dakota Territorial Council in 1885, was a board member and president of the Dakota Agricultural College Board of Trustees, and was an American Civil War veteran. Early life Day was born on August 2, 1831, the eldest of seven children of Abraham Day and Anne Plummer, in Tarentum, Pennsylvania / East Deer Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on the west bank of the Allegheny River near Pittsburg. Abraham's grandfather, Ezekial Day, was reported to be the first English settler in that part of Allegheny County. The Rev. James Roscoe Day, D.D., L.L.D. (17 October 1845 – March 13, 1923) was an American Methodist minister, educator and chancellor of Syracuse University. Early life and education Day was born in Whitneyville, Maine, on October 17, 1845 to Thomas and Mary Plummer Hillman Day. He attended Maine Wesleyan Seminary and then studied at Bowdoin College but had to stop due to poor health; he eventually received his degree in 1874. He married Anna E. Richards of Auburn, Maine in 1873. In 1872, he was ordained a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church and served as a pastor at Bath, Maine, from 1872 to 1874; Portland, Maine, from 1876 to 1878; Boston, Massachusetts, from 1881 to 1882; New York City, 1883 to 1885 and 1889 to 1893. James John Day (8 February 1850 – 19 February 1895) was an English first-class cricketer. Day was born at Holborn in February 1850. Day made his debut in first-class cricket for the Gentlemen of the South against the Gentlemen of the North at Beeston in 1870. The following year he made two appearances for W. G. Grace's personal XI in two fixtures against Kent in 1871, at Maidstone and Gravesend. Day batted on three innings during his brief first-class career, scoring a single run and being dismissed without scoring on two occasions. James Wentworth Day (21 April 1899 – 5 January 1983) was a British author and broadcaster, a promoter of Agrarian Right politics and essentially a High Tory. He lived for most of his life in East Anglia. He had a particular interest in wildfowling, and at one time owned Adventurers' Fen, a piece of marshland in Cambridgeshire. He was also a ghost hunter, and wrote several books about this interest. He may be remembered best for his journey around the farms of East Anglia on horseback during World War II, as detailed in his book ''Farming Adventure'' (later reprinted with the title ''Wartime Ride''), while for many years he was associated with the magazine ''East Anglian''. James Day (December 22, 1918 – April 24, 2008) was an American public television station and network executive and on-air interviewer, and professor of television broadcasting at Brooklyn College. Day was a co-founder, and the founding president and general manager, of pioneer San Francisco public television station KQED, and in 1969 became the final president of National Educational Television (NET) before it closed operations in 1970, making way for its successor, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Day then became general manager of NET's now-former flagship, New York PBS member station WNET.
