James Dawson (activist)
James Dawson (5 July 1806 – 19 April 1900) was a prominent champion of Australian Aborigines, Aboriginal interests. He was born at Bonnytoun, Linlithgow, Scotland, the son of a St. Magdalene (whisky distillery), whisky distiller. He arrived in Hobsons Bay, Port Phillip, Australia on 2 May 1840 with his wife Joan Anderson Park, niece of Mungo Park (explorer), Mungo Park. He tried dairy farming in the Yarra River, Yarra valley for a time but moved to broader pastures in the Port Fairy, Victoria, Port Fairy district in 1844. For the next 22 years Dawson was in partnership in a cattle and sheep station, "Cox's Heifer Station" later named Kangatong, some 10 miles east of Macarthur, Victoria, Macarthur. In 1866 he left the district and settled for a while near Melbourne, but later moved back to the Camperdown, Victoria, Camperdown area living at Wuurung Farm on the edge of Lake Bullen Merri, where he became Local Guardian of the Indigenous Australians, Aborigines in 1876. James Dawson (June 5, 1823 – November 3, 1886) was an Ontario political figure. He represented Kent in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario The Legislative Assembly of Ontario (OLA, french: Assemblée législative de l'Ontario) is the legislative chamber of the Canadian province of Ontario. Its elected members are known as Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs). Bills passed by ... as a Liberal member from 1871 to 1874. He served as warden for Lambton County. Colonel James Lennox Dawson Victoria Cross, VC (25 December 1891 – 15 February 1967) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth forces. Dawson enlisted into the 5th Cameronians in November 1914, but transferred to the Royal Engineers in March 1915. James Walker Dawson (1870, India - 26 June 1927, Edinburgh) was a Scottish pathologist remembered for his work on multiple sclerosis including the description of the eponymous Dawson's fingers. Juno Dawson (formerly James Dawson; born 10 June 1981) is a British author of young adult fiction and non-fiction. Dawson's notable works include ''This Book Is Gay'', ''Mind Your Head'', ''Margot & Me'', ''The Gender Games'', ''Clean'' and ''Meat Market''. James "Jerry" Dawson (30 October 1909 – 19 January 1977) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper and spent most of his career with Rangers. Career Born in Falkirk, Dawson's position as a goalkeeper saw him nicknamed 'Jerry' after the famous English custodian with whom he shared a surname. He began his career playing with local Junior side Camelon, before turning professional with Rangers in November 1929. He spent the next 16 years with the Ibrox side, winning the Scottish league five times and the Scottish Cup twice. He made 236 league appearances for Rangers and was capped 14 times by Scotland between 1934 and 1939. He also appeared 11 times for the Scottish Football League XI.
