James Cook
James Cook (7 November 1728 Old Style date: 27 October – 14 February 1779) was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the British Royal Navy, famous for his three voyages between 1768 and 1779 in the Pacific Ocean and to New Zealand and Australia in particular. He made detailed maps of Newfoundland prior to making three voyages to the Pacific, during which he achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, and the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand. Cook joined the British merchant navy as a teenager and joined the Royal Navy in 1755. He saw action in the Seven Years' War and subsequently surveyed and mapped much of the entrance to the St. Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec, which brought him to the attention of the Admiralty and the Royal Society. James Cook (broadcaster)
James Cook is a Scottish journalist and broadcaster. He is currently Scotland Editor for BBC News and an occasional presenter of the BBC’s Newscast podcast. Previously, he was Chief News Correspondent on the Nine nightly news programme on the BBC Scotland channel and, before that, Los Angeles Correspondent and Scotland Correspondent for the BBC. Educated at Forfar Academy, Cook began his career at Radio Tay in Dundee where he first read the news at the age of 15. Since joining BBC Scotland in 1998, Cook has gone on to present many news and current affairs programmes including Good Morning Scotland and Reporting Scotland. History James Cook High School was opened in February 1968. James Cook Boys Technology High School is a boys' secondary school situated on Princes Highway in Kogarah, Australia. The school is named after Captain James Cook, the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia. History James Cook was founded in 1956 after Moorefield racecourse was demolished. The site of the racecourse was divided to provide sites for three schools (Moorefield Girls High School, James Cook Boys Technology High School and St George school for kids with severe disabilities), St George TAFE. The rest of the site was allocated for residential development. The school was renamed several times (originally Moorefield Boys High School) before becoming James Cook Boys. The location of the state of Nebraska Paleontology in Nebraska refers to paleontological research occurring within or conducted by people from the U.S. state of Nebraska. Nebraska is world-famous as a source of fossils. During the early Paleozoic, Nebraska was covered by a shallow sea that was probably home to creatures like brachiopods, corals, and trilobites. During the Carboniferous, a swampy system of river deltas expanded westward across the state. During the Permian period, the state continued to be mostly dry land. James William Cook
James William Cook (January 11, 1820 – May 21, 1875) was a lumber merchant and political figure in Canada West. He was born in Williamsburgh Township in Upper Canada in 1820. His family operated a timber business along the South Nation and Castor Rivers in the eastern part of the province. The firm's main office was situated in Morrisburg. The business expanded to include operations near Quebec City, Toronto and Barrie. In 1857, he was elected to the 6th Parliament of the Province of Canada representing Dundas. His uncle John Cook had earlier represented Dundas in the Legislative Assembly. His brother Hermon Henry served in the federal and provincial legislatures and his brother Simon served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Sir James Wilfred Cook FRS FRSE DSc LLD (1900–1975) was an English chemist, best known for his research of organic chemistry of carcinogenic compounds. Friends knew him simply as Jim Cook. Life He was born in South Kensington in London on 10 December 1900, the son of Charles William Cook, a coachman, and his wife, Frances Wall. Using a London County Council scholarship he attended Sloane School in Chelsea, London. Cook studied Chemistry at University College, London under Frederick G. Donnan and Norman Collie. In 1920 he began lecturing at the Sir John Cass Technical Institute where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1923 with a thesis on the Anthracene derivative. He lectured at the Institute until 1928. In 1929 Ernest Kennaway invited him to the Royal Cancer Hospital where he remained until 1939.
