James Caulfeild, 3rd Earl Of Charlemont
James Molyneux Caulfeild, 3rd Earl of Charlemont KP (6 October 1820 – 12 January 1892) was an Irish politician and peer. He was the son of Hon. Henry Caulfeild, younger son of James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont, and Elizabeth Margaret Browne. Charlemont was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was appointed High Sheriff of Armagh for 1842 and held the office of Whig Member of Parliament (MP) for County Armagh between 1847 and 1857. He was Lord Lieutenant of County Armagh between 1849 and 1864. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Charlemont, amongst the other peerages, on 26 December 1863 on the death of his uncle Francis. He was Lord Lieutenant of County Tyrone between 1864 and 1892 and was made a Knight of St Patrick on 28 December 1865. Lord Charlemont married on two occasions; * Hon. Order Of St Patrick
The Most Illustrious Order of Saint Patrick is a dormant British order of chivalry associated with Ireland. The Order was created in 1783 by King George III at the request of the then Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, The 3rd Earl Temple (later created Marquess of Buckingham). The regular creation of knights of the Order lasted until 1922, when most of Ireland gained independence as the Irish Free State, a dominion within what was then known as the British Commonwealth of Nations. While the Order technically still exists, no knight of St Patrick has been created since 1936, and the last surviving knight, Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, died in 1974. Archibald Acheson, 3rd Earl of Gosford KP (20 August 1806 – 15 June 1864), styled Viscount Acheson between 1807 and 1849, was a British peer and Member of Parliament. Early life Gosford was born on 20 August 1806. He was the only son of Archibald Acheson, 2nd Earl of Gosford of Gosford Castle, County Armagh and the former Mary Sparrow (1777–1841). He had four younger sisters, including Lady Mary Acheson (wife of James Hewitt, 4th Viscount Lifford) and Lady Millicent Acheson (wife of Dr. Henry Bence Jones). His paternal grandparents were Arthur Acheson, 1st Earl of Gosford and the former Millicent ( née Pole) (a daughter of Lt.-Gen. Edward Pole). Viscount Charlemont
Viscount Charlemont is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1665 for William Caulfeild, 5th Baron Charlemont. The Caulfeild family descends from Sir Toby Caulfeild, originally of Oxfordshire, England. He was a noted soldier and also represented Armagh in the Irish House of Commons. In 1620 he was created Lord Caulfeild, Baron of Charlemont, in the Peerage of Ireland, with remainder to his nephew Sir William Caulfeild, who succeeded him as second Baron. The latter's son, the third Baron, was shot in 1642 on the orders of Sir Phelim O'Neill, the leader of the Irish Rebellion of 1641. His younger brother, the fifth Baron, had O'Neill apprehended and executed for the murder of his elder brother. In 1665 he was created Viscount Charlemont in the Peerage of Ireland. Somerset Richard Lowry-Corry, 4th Earl Belmore, (9 April 1835 – 6 April 1913), styled as Viscount Corry from 1841 to 1845, was an Irish nobleman and Conservative politician who served as Governor of New South Wales from 1868 to 1872. Background and education Born at Bruton Street in London, he was the eldest son of Armar Lowry-Corry, 3rd Earl Belmore and his wife Emily Louise Shepherd, youngest daughter of William Shepherd. Belmore succeeded his father in the earldom on 24 December 1845, at the age of only 10. Francis Caulfeild, 2nd Earl Of Charlemont
Francis William Caulfeild, 2nd Earl of Charlemont KP, PC (Ire) (3 January 1775 – 26 December 1863), styled Viscount Caulfeild until 1799, was an Irish peer and politician. He was born the elder son of James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont and his wife Mary Hickman, daughter of Thomas Hickman of County Clare. In 1798 Caulfeild stood for Charlemont and Armagh County. He represented the latter constituency in the Irish House of Commons until 1799, when he became Earl of Charlemont on the death of his father. On 12 December 1806, he was elected as an Irish representative peer and assumed his seat in the House of Lords. He was appointed a Knight of the Order of St Patrick on 19 October 1831. In 1837 he was created Baron Charlemont in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, thereby giving him and his descendants an automatic seat in the House of Lords.
