Jim Byrne (Gaelic Footballer)
James Byrne (born 15 April 1890) was an Irish Gaelic football administrator, referee and player who enjoyed a lengthy career as a left corner-back with the Wexford senior team. He joined the team in 1913 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until 1925. Kennelly is regarded as one of Wexford's greatest-ever players. He won four consecutive All-Ireland winners' medals and seven Leinster winners' medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions, Byrne captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1918. James Byrne VC ( ga, Séamus Ó Broin; 1822 – 6 December 1872) was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Details Byrne was about 36 years old, and a private in the 86th Regiment of Foot (later the Royal Irish Rifles), British Army during the Indian Mutiny when the following deed took place on 3 April 1858 at Jhansi, India for which he and Captain Henry Edward Jerome were awarded the VC. James Byrne is a British poet and translator who edited ''The Wolf'' magazine from 2002 to 2017. He was born in Buckinghamshire in 1977. His most recent poetry collections include ''Everything Broken Up Dances'', published by Tupelo Press in the United States and ''White Coins'', both in 2015. Other published collections include ''Blood/Sugar'' by Arc Publications in 2009, and he has also published pamphlets, including ''SOAPBOXES'' and ''Myth of the Savage Tribes, Myth of Civilised Nations'', a collaborative work with the poet Sandeep Parmar. James Byrne (; Irish: ''An Beirneach''; 4 January 1946 – 8 November 2008) was an Irish farmer and fiddle playing icon from Donegal. He has been called one of Ireland's leading fiddle players. Biography Byrne was born in Mín na Croise (Meenacross), Gleann Cholm Cille (Glencolmcille) in south west County Donegal, Ireland. He learned his first tune from his father John Byrne at the age of 8. His style is the old Glencolmcille, County Donegal, style. He was the link between the older generation of musicians in his area - his neighbours, the Dohertys, the Cassidys, the McConnells, to name but a few - and the young generation of Donegal fiddlers today whom he taught and inspired. James Byrne (born 22 June 1933) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Byrne, a ruckman, won the a Michelsen Medal while with Sandhurst in 1955. He left Bendigo for Melbourne in 1956 and appeared in the opening three rounds of the 1956 VFL season for St Kilda. His permit had only been for those three games and St Kilda were then refused a clearance by Sandhurst. The following year he was cleared to St Kilda and played in the first two rounds of the season before suffering a knee injury, which would ultimately end his football career.
