James Burt (broker)
James Burt (August 15, 1836 – July 7, 1892) was a 19th-century Wall Street broker from Albany, New York and a former assistant commissary general of the state of New York and assistant appraiser of the Port of New York. His brother, Colonel Silas W. Burt, was president of the Brokers' Loan and Investment Company and naval officer of the Port of New York under Presidents Rutherford B. Hayes and Grover Cleveland. Their father was Thomas M. Burt, a proprietor of the ''Albany Argus'' newspaper.. Burt attended Kinderhook, New York Academy and graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York in 1854. Following his government appointments he was involved in the sugar business and was considered an expert regarding the commodity. At the time of his death he represented the Havemeyers in the sugar trust at their office at 56 Wall Street. Jim Burt (sportscaster)
Jim Burt (June 22, 1918 – July 5, 1993) was an American broadcast pioneer who spent forty years as sportscaster on KELO radio and television. He was named South Dakota's sportscaster of the year seven times. Biography Jim Burt was born in Melcher, Iowa, on June 22, 1918. He graduated from Melcher High School in 1936 and then from Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Burt started broadcasting sports for KELO (AM), KELO in June 1947. He broadcast every boys basketball tournament from 1948 to 1982, and was "the voice of the South Dakota Coyotes" from 1952 to 1977. Jim Burt joined South Dakota's first television station, KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, when the station first went on the air in 1953. He served as the station's sports director. Burt retired in 1987. In December 1994, an endowed scholarship fund was established in Jim Burt's memory within the University of South Dakota Foundation. James P. Burt (born June 7, 1959) is a former American football player who played for the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). Burt played nose tackle for the Giants team that won Super Bowl XXI and the 49ers team that won Super Bowl XXIV. College career Burt played college football at the University of Miami and was inducted into its sports hall of fame. Raised in western New York state, he had dreamed of playing for Syracuse, but they advised him to attend prep school first. Professional career Burt joined the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 1981. He made the Pro Bowl in 1986 and finished his career with his 20 quarterback sacks.
