James Burnes (surgeon)
James Burnes (12 February 1801–19 September 1862) was a Scottish doctor and surgeon in India, who became physician-general of Bombay. Life Burnes was born on 12 February 1801 at Montrose, where his father James Burnes was Provost. He was a medical student at Edinburgh University, and London's Guy's Hospital and St Thomas's Hospital. Burnes arrived in 1821 at Bombay, with his brother Alexander Burnes. After taking minor posts in the medical service, he was successful in the open competition for the office of surgeon to the residency of Cutch State, quite recently in the hands of the East India Company. The state was led by Deshalji II, a minor, and there was an incursion from Sindh that forced the British brigade to retire to Bhuj. Burnes accompanied, as a volunteer, the field force which in 1825 expelled the Sindians. With a flattering invitation, Burnes then visited Hyderabad in Sindh. Royal Guelphic Order
The Royal Guelphic Order (german: Königliche Guelphen-Orden), sometimes referred to as the Hanoverian Guelphic Order, is a Hanoverian order of chivalry instituted on 28 April 1815 by the Prince Regent (later King George IV). It takes its name from the House of Guelph, of which the Hanoverians were a branch. Since Hanover and the United Kingdom shared a monarch until 1837, the order was frequently bestowed upon British subjects. Maharajadhiraj Mirza Maharao Shri Deshalji II Sahib Bahadur (b 1814- d 1860) (reign: 1819–1860) was the Rao of Cutch belonging to Jadeja dynasty, who ascended the throne of Princely State of Cutch upon deposition of his father Bharmalji II by British. He reigned during his minority, under a Council of Regency, headed by Captain MacMurdo and composed of Jadeja chiefs. Reign During his reign Kutch suffered a severe earthquake in 1819 followed by severe famine in 1823, 1825 & 1832. Further, Kutch was attacked by marauding band from Sindh. Robert Freke Gould (10 November 1836 – 26 March 1915) was a soldier, barrister and prominent Freemasonry, Freemason and Masonic historian. He wrote a ''History of Freemasonry'' (6 vols.) (London: Thomas C. Jack, 1883–1887), which remains a standard reference work on the subject. Early life and career Gould was the son of the Rev. Robert Freke Gould, Rector of Luccombe, Somerset#Stoke Pero, Stoke Pero in Somerset and a brother of the Frederick Wentworth, 3rd Earl of Strafford, Countess of Strafford. William IV
William IV (William Henry; 21 August 1765 – 20 June 1837) was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover from 26 June 1830 until his death in 1837.
