James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes is a Character (arts), fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Originally introduced as a sidekick to Captain America, the character was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby and first appeared in ''Captain America Comics'' #1 (cover-dated March 1941) (which was published by Marvel's predecessor, Timely Comics). Barnes' original costume (or one based on it) and the Bucky nickname has been used by Bucky (Marvel Comics), other heroes in the Marvel Universe over the years.The 1995 ''Marvel Milestone Edition: Captain America'' archival reprint has no cover date or number, and its postal Indicia (publishing), indicia says, "Originally published ... as Captain America #000". Timely's first comic, ''Marvel Mystery Comics, Marvel Comics'' #1, likewise had no number on its cover, and was released with two different cover dates.
