Kokomo Arnold
James "Kokomo" Arnold (February 15, 1896 or 1901 – November 8, 1968) was an American blues musician. A left-handed slide guitarist, his intense style of playing and rapid-fire vocal delivery set him apart from his contemporaries. He got his nickname in 1934 after releasing "Old Original Kokomo Blues" for Decca Records, a cover version of Scrapper Blackwell's blues song about the city of Kokomo, Indiana. Early life Arnold was born in Lovejoy's Station, Georgia. Most sources give the date his birth as 1901, but the researchers Bob Eagle and Eric LeBlanc give the date as 1896, on the basis of information in the 1900 census. Jimmy Arnold (musician)
James Francis Arnold (January 4, 1932 – June 15, 2004) was a Canadian singer, who became famous as an original member of the quartet The Four Lads. He appeared on hits such as " Standing on the Corner" (1956), "No, Not Much" (1955) and "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" (1953). After 30 years of being with the group, Arnold retired from the stage and began teaching music through the James Arnold School of Voice in the 1980s. During his 30 year teaching career, he had many students become successful entertainers on Broadway and in Opera. Arnold died of lung cancer on June 15, 2004. The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University is a botanical research institution and free public park, located in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale neighborhoods of Boston, Massachusetts. Established in 1872, it is the oldest public arboretum in North America. The landscape was designed by Charles Sprague Sargent and Frederick Law Olmsted and is the second largest "link" in the Emerald Necklace. The Arnold Arboretum's collection of temperate trees, shrubs, and vines has a particular emphasis on the plants of the eastern United States and eastern Asia, where arboretum staff and colleagues are actively sourcing new material on plant collecting expeditions. James Arnold (2 July 1909 – 7 September 1999) was an English commercial artist who developed a passion for the wagons that he saw on his cycling tours of the countryside in the pre- and post-War years. He set about producing painstakingly accurate measured drawings and watercolours of all the main regional types that he came across and these he included in a series of books beginning with ''The Joyous Wheel'' (1940) and including ''The Farm Waggons of England and Wales'' (1969). Life Arnold was born in Southall, Middlesex on 2 July 1909. Never owning a car, he cycled all his life, claiming to have covered nearly half a million miles in his lifetime. In November 1946 he became a founding member of the Birmingham-based Beacon Roads Cycling Club. He often toured with fellow members of the Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC). James Jarvist Arnold (12 April 1902 – 29 October 1967) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian Senate for New South Wales from 1940 to 1967. Arnold was born at Wallaroo Mines in South Australia and was educated at St Joseph's School in Kadina and Christian Brothers College in Adelaide. He worked as private secretary to the managing director of an insurance company and then for a motor firm. Arnold then moved to Sydney 1928 to become a probationary firefighter, later moving to Newcastle 1930, where he was assigned to the Newcastle East Fire Brigade. He studied accountancy alongside his work there, and qualified as an accountant in 1937, but remained a firefighter until his election to parliament. James Frederick Arnold (6 June 1859 – 10 July 1929) was a New Zealand Member of Parliament of the Liberal Party for various Dunedin electorates. Private life Born in Saint Peter Port, Guernsey, on 6 June 1859, Arnold was the son of Julius Arnold. The family emigrated to New Zealand in 1864. James Edward "Jim" Arnold (May 7, 1939 – October 4, 2007) was a prominent American businessman. Arnold was one of Pirelli North America's last presidents and was also the president of Bohn Aluminum and a major consultant to Wicks (a group most famous for its ownership of the Lowe's hardware chain). Professional career At the age of seventeen Arnold joined the United States Army; he quickly rose to a position in the Green Berets (a part of the U.S. Special Forces) after service and training in the Army Airborne. James Newell Arnold (August 3, 1844 – September 18, 1927) was a collector and publisher of genealogical and historical records of the state of Rhode Island. His major achievement was the publication of the 21-volume set entitled ''The Vital Record of Rhode Island (1636-1850)''. Life Arnold was one of three children born on a farm in Cranston, Rhode Island, to James Lincoln Arnold and Amey Underwood. From the time he was a child, he suffered from a form of lameness that required him to use crutches later in life. As a child he became aware of his descent from early Rhode Island settlers, and his interest in documenting that descent ensued. As a young adult he lived with his parents, and moved with them to North Kingstown, Rhode Island, in 1869, settling near the Gilbert Stuart birthplace.
