James Anson Campbell
James Anson Campbell (September 11, 1854 – September 20, 1933) was an American business leader known for his role as chairman of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, one of the largest regional steel-production firms in the United States. Campbell served as director of the American Iron and Steel Institute during World War I. Early years Born in the village of Ohltown, Ohio, Campbell suffered from tuberculosis as a child and was predicted to die at a young age. He recovered his health, however, and later excelled at sports such as baseball and boxing. As a young man, Campbell enrolled at Hiram College, where he studied business. His early employment included stints as a hardware salesman and furniture store manager. Ohltown, Ohio
Ohltown is an unincorporated community in Mahoning County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is a suburb located between Youngstown, Austintown, and the Meander Creek Reservoir. History A post office was established at Ohltown in 1841, and remained in operation until 1902. The community was named for Michael Ohl, who started a mill there in the 1810s. In addition to operating a saw and grist mill, Michael Ohl operated a hotel and was the first postmaster. Today, Ohltown is listed as a "ghost town." This is because most of the old town site was flooded in the 1920s to create the Meander Creek Reservoir. All that remains of the community is the Ohltown United Methodist Church and a few homes. Campbell (; ) is a city in eastern Mahoning County, Ohio, United States, along the Mahoning River. The population was 7,852 at the 2020 census. Located directly southeast of Youngstown, it is a suburb of the Youngstown–Warren metropolitan area. Campbell was first called East Youngstown and this designation still appears on real estate deeds between 1902 and 1926, when the city was renamed for local industrialist James Campbell, then chairman of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. Eugene Gifford Grace (August 27, 1876 – July 7, 1960) was the president of Bethlehem Steel Corporation from 1916 to 1945, and chairman of the board from 1945 until his retirement in 1957. He also served as president of the American Iron and Steel Institute, and sat on the board of trustees for Lehigh University. Early years He was born in Cape May, New Jersey, the son of a sea captain John W. Grace, and Rebecca Grace. He married Marion Brown, daughter of Charles Brown, co-founder of the Brown-Borhek lumber supply company. Grace attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and played for the university baseball team. He was considered to be one of their best players, playing shortstop and batting (baseball), batting a .400 average.
