James Althoff
James Althoff (born September 27, 1961) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Winona State University. During his senior season, he was named an NAIA All-American. Professional career After graduation, he rejected an offer from USFL's Michigan Panthers but later played semi-professionally for a team in Delavan, Wisconsin. He attended an NFL-staffed tryout camp in Pennsylvania which led to the Buffalo Bills signing him for their preseason camp but he was cut before the start of the season. After the 1987 NFL players strike begun, he signed with the Chicago Bears of the NFL during the, appearing in four games with three starts. He was cut by the bears in August 1988, prior to the start of the season. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Delavan is a city in Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,505 at the 2020 census. It is located southwest of Milwaukee. The city is located partially within the Town of Delavan, but the two entities are politically independent. The Michigan Panthers were a professional American football team based in the Detroit, Michigan area.
