Jalu Municipality ( ar, جالو) was one of the municipalities (''baladiyah'') of Libya from 1983 to 1987. It lay in the northeastern part of the country. Its capital was Jalu. The ''Baladiyah'' (singular), or ''baladiyat'' (plural), is the current second-level administration subdivision of Libya being reintroduced in 2012 by the General National Congress with Law 59 on the system of local administration, dividing the country into governorates (''muhafazat'') and districts (''baladiyat''), with baladiyah having local councils. ''Baladiyah'' is an Arabic word used in many Arab countries to denote administrative divisions of a country. History Baladiyat were first introduced in Libya in 1983 to replace the governorate system. The ten existing governorates were replaced with forty-six baladiyat, but in 1988 that number was reduced to twenty-five baladiyat. In 1995 they were replaced by ''shabiyat''. Jalu
Jalu, Jallow, or Gialo ( ar, جالو) is a town in the Al Wahat District in northeastern Libya in the Jalo oasis. An oasis, a city, and it is the main center of the oasis region in eastern Libya. It is located at the confluence of longitude and latitude (21-29), and the most important characteristic of visitors and onlookers is the presence of dense palm forests linking the sand dunes and plateaus of the Libyan desert. Its inhabitants were famous for trade and transporting goods from Cyrenaica and Tripoli to (Chad, Egypt and Sudan) and other African countries. It is an ancient oasis mentioned by Arab travelers, and orientalists in many historical sources. Ajdabiya District
Ajdabiya ( ar, إجدابيا) was one of the districts of Libya. It lay in the northeastern part of the country. Its capital was Ajdabiya. As of 2007 it was subsumed within the enlarged Al Wahat District. When Ajdabiya District was in existence from 2001 to 2007, it had, in the north, a short piece of coastline on the Mediterranean Sea. Al Wahat District
Al Wahat or The Oases ( ar, الواحات ', en, The Oases), occasionally spelt ''Al Wahad'' or ''Al Wahah'' ( en, The Oasis) is one of the districts of Libya.''Statesman's Yearbook 2006'' Its capital and largest city is Ajdabiya.
