Jake McQuaide
Jacob McQuaide (born December 7, 1987) is an American football long snapper for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2011. McQuaide played college football at Ohio State. Early years McQuaide attended Elder High School. As a sophomore, he contributed to the football team winning an OHSAA State Championship. As a senior, he had 10 receptions for 125 yards at tight end. He also lettered in basketball. He walked-on at Ohio State University. As a redshirt freshman, he was rotated in the first seven games at long snapper, along with seniors Dimitrios Makridis and Jackson Haas. He was removed from the rotation the rest of the season because of inconsistency issues and did not play in the last 6 contests. Long Snapper
In American football, the long snapper (or deep snapper) is a center on special teams whose duty is to snap the football over a longer distance, typically around 15 yards during punts, and 7–8 yards during field goals and extra point attempts. Overview During field goal and point after touchdown attempts, the snap is received by the holder, typically 7–8 yards away. During punts, the snap is delivered to the punter from 13–15 yards away. Following a punt snap, the snapper often executes a blocking assignment and then must cover the kick by running downfield and attempting to stop the opposing team's punt returner from advancing the ball in the opposite direction. If the punt goes uncaught, it is the snapper's responsibility to make sure the ball does not enter the end zone or bounce backward resulting in loss of yards. Chris Massey
Christopher Todd Massey (born November 21, 1979) is a former American football long snapper. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at Marshall University. He has also played for the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears. College years Massey attended Marshall University and was a four-year starter at long snapper. He never missed a snap during his college career and added 12 tackles on coverage units, and 19 more as a senior linebacker. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 2001 and completed a Master's in Sports Administration in 2009. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section).
