''Jailbreak'' is a 1936 American (Precursor) film noir, crime, mystery, drama film directed by Nick Grinde and written by Robert Hardy Andrews and Joseph Hoffman. The film stars Barton MacLane, June Travis, Craig Reynolds, Dick Purcell, Joe King, and George E. Stone. The film was released by Warner Bros. on August 5, 1936. Plot A ex-racketeer has a fight with a cop and goes to prison, and things happen when he tries to get paroled, and a newspaper reporter tries to figure it out. Nick Grinde
Nick Grinde (January 12, 1893 – June 19, 1979) was an American film director and screenwriter. He directed 57 films between 1928 and 1945. Biography Born Harry A. Grinde in Madison, Wisconsin but nicknamed "Nick," Grinde graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He later moved to New York and worked in Vaudeville. Grinde became a Cinema of the United States, Hollywood film writer and director in the late 1920s, and was often assigned to familiarize Broadway theatre, Broadway stage directors with the techniques of film making. As a director, he is considered one of American cinema's early B film specialists. Notable films include ''The Man they Could Not Hang'' with Boris Karloff, and Ronald Reagan's first motion picture: ''Love is on the Air'' (1937). Joseph Crehan
Joseph A. Creaghan (July 15, 1883 – April 15, 1966) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 300 films between 1916 and 1965, and notably played Ulysses S. Grant nine times between 1939 and 1958, most memorably in ''Union Pacific'' and ''They Died with Their Boots On''. Early life Born in Baltimore, Maryland. he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Crehan. Robert Emmett Keane
Robert Emmett Keane (March 4, 1883 – July 2, 1981) was an American actor of both the stage and screen. Biography Keane began on stage in the 1910s, his first Broadway appearance being in the production of '' The Passing Show of 1914''. He continued on the stage through the mid-1930s, appearing in both London and New York theater productions. His film career began in 1930, and over the twenty-five years of that career he appeared in between 170 and 200 films. At the very tail end of his acting life he made several appearances on the small screen. Keane was married twice. His first marriage was to Muriel Inetta Window, an opera singer, vaudeville actress and 1913 Peacock Girl with the Ziegfeld Follies. They were married in approximately 1916 and divorced in 1920. A minor actress for much of her career, she managed to secure a plain, unassuming niche for herself in the Hollywood of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Charles Brown Middleton (October 3, 1874 – April 22, 1949) was an American stage and film actor. During a film career that began at age 46 and lasted almost 30 years, he appeared in nearly 200 films as well as numerous plays. Sometimes credited as Charles B.
