The Jaguarão or Yaguarón River ( pt, Rio Jaguarão, es, RÃo Yaguarón) is a Brazilian and Uruguayan river. It forms the border between Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul state in southernmost Brazil. The river originates in Serras de Sudeste (Southeastern Mountain Ranges) and flows east to empty into Lagoa Mirim (Portuguese) / Laguna MerÃn (Spanish), which is a large coastal lagoon which is indirectly connected to the Atlantic Ocean. Mirim Lagoon
Lagoon Mirim (Portuguese, ) or MerÃn (Spanish, ) is a large estuarine lagoon which extends from southern Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil into eastern Uruguay. Lagoa Mirim is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a sandy, partially barren isthmus. The Jaguarão/Yaguarón, Tacuarà and Cebollatà Rivers empty into Lagoon Mirim, while the São Gonçalo Channel connects it with Lagoa dos Patos to the north. Location Lagoon Mirim is about long by wide and in area. It is more irregular in outline than its larger neighbor to the north, Lagoa dos Patos, and discharges into the latter through São Gonçalo Channel, which is navigable by small boats.
