Adriatic Sea
The Adriatic Sea () is a body of water separating the Italian Peninsula from the Balkan Peninsula. The Adriatic is the northernmost arm of the Mediterranean Sea, extending from the Strait of Otranto (where it connects to the Ionian Sea) to the northwest and the Po Valley. The countries with coasts on the Adriatic are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, and Slovenia. The Adriatic contains more than 1,300 islands, mostly located along the Croatian part of its eastern coast. Jadran is a Croatian brand of cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by the Adris grupa (formerly known as ''Tvornica Duhana Rovinj''), a division of British American Tobacco. Jadran means '' The Adriatic'' in South Slavic languages. History The brand was founded in the Socialist Republic of Croatia and quickly became one of the most popular brands in the Croatian-speaking parts of Yugoslavia, along with ''Opatija''. The brand was mainly popular with the upper-class within Socialist Croatia, and is one of the few brands to survive after the Breakup of Yugoslavia and Croatia became its own country, along with ''Drina''. The Zadran ( ps, ځدراڼ ''dzadrāṇ''; pronounced ''dzādroṇ'' in the Khost-Paktia dialect), also spelled Dzadran or Jadran, is a Pashtun tribe that inhabits the Loya Paktia region in southeastern Afghanistan (Khost, Paktia, and Paktika provinces) and parts of Waziristan in neighboring Pakistan. "Zadran: Pashtun tribe mainly residing in the “Zadran Arc” a 9-district area encompassing portions of the Khost, Paktya, and Paktika provinces." The Zadran are a branch of the Karlani tribal confederacy. TV Jadran is a Croatian commercial television station, licensed to broadcast in Split-Dalmatia County. It was launched in Split, Croatia, in late 1993 under the name of CATV as cable-only station. Few years later it received a broadcasting license for Split-Dalmatia County and became available to the rest of County under the name Adriatic TV (ATV). Finally, since the beginning of 2004, it was renamed into TV Jadran. Its signal also spreads over the neighbouring parts of Šibenik-Knin County and Dubrovnik-Neretva County, from Vodice on the north to Metković on the south. Jadran Film is a film production studio and distribution company founded in 1946 in Zagreb, Croatia. In the period between the early 1960s and late 1980s Jadran Film was one of the biggest and most notable film studios in Central Europe, with some 145 international and around 120 Yugoslav productions filmed at the studio during those three decades, including two Oscar-winning films and Orson Welles' 1962 screen adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel ''The Trial''. The word ''Jadran'' refers to the Adriatic Sea in Croatian. NK Jadran is a Croatian football club based in the city of Poreč. It was founded in 1948 by Croatian handball player Lujo Györy. History Jadran began play in the Croatian second division in 1992-93. Jadran won the 1996-97 3.HNL ''zapad'' (west) group. Jadran participated in the promotion playoffs for the 1.HNL in 1997-98 after winning the ''zapad'' (west) group, finishing second in their group and failing to advance. They were relegated to the 3.HNL in 2001 after finishing last and losing the promotion playoff. Jadran played in the 2013 Croatian cup, losing in the first round to Slaven Belupo.
