Jacques Poulin
Jacques Poulin (born 23 September 1937 in Saint-Gédéon, Quebec) is a Canadian novelist with a quiet and intimate style of writing. Poulin studied psychology and arts at the Université Laval in Quebec City; he started his career as commercial translator and later became a college guidance counselor. Only after the success of his second novel, ''Jimmy'' (1969), was he able to devote himself completely to his writing. Poulin has written fourteen novels, many of which have been translated into English by Sheila Fischman, and published by Cormorant Books. Poulin lived in Paris for 15 years, but now lives in Quebec City. Poulin's '' Volkswagen Blues'' was selected as a candidate in the CBC's 2005 edition of ''Canada Reads'', where it was championed by Roch Carrier, author and former National Librarian of Canada. Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce, Quebec
Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce is a municipality in the Beauce-Sartigan Regional County Municipality in Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region and the population is 2,093 as of 2021. It is named after biblical judge Gideon. The municipality was created in February 2003 after the merging of the parish municipality of Saint-Gédéon and the municipality of Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce. The two had split in 1950. Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce is a site of Canam, one of the largest steel joist factories in Canada. Prix Québec-Paris
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences. Archipelago Books is an American not-for-profit publisher dedicated to promoting cross-cultural exchange through international literature in translation." Located in Brooklyn, New York, it publishes small to mid-size runs of international fiction, poetry, and literary essays. The press was founded in 2003 by Jill Schoolman. On marking its 10th anniversary, Archipelago had published one hundred books, translated from more than twenty-six languages into English. The Thomas Henry Pentland Molson Prize for the Arts is awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts. Two prizes are awarded annually to distinguished individuals.
