Jacques Nicolaou
Jacques Nicolaou (7 October 1930 – 30 May 2022) was a French comic book author. Biography After illustrating on an amateur level, Nicolaou began animating games in ''Les aventures de Pif le chien'' for ''Vaillant''. He then took over for José Cabrero Arnal in illustrating ' and worked for ''Pif Gadget'', ''Dimanche Fillette'', and ''Les Rois du Rire''. For ''Pif Gadget'', he illustrated the series ' and ' with Roger Lécureux. After his retirement, he began to work with watercolors while returning to ''Placid et Muzo'' on occasion. Châtenay-Malabry
Châtenay-Malabry () is a commune in the southwestern suburbs of Paris. It is located 10.8 km (6.7 mi) from the center of Paris. The French writer Chateaubriand lived in the estate ''Vallée-aux-Loups'' at Châtenay-Malabry. The Garden City in the Butte Rouge, the ''Cité Jardins'', is one of the earliest examples of housing at moderated rents (''HLM''). Châtenay is the location of ''École Centrale Paris'', of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Paris-Sud and of French national laboratory of doping detection. It is also the home of the Arboretum de la Vallée-aux-Loups. The high-speed LGV Atlantique crosses the city through a tunnel covered by a park called ''Coulée verte'' (greenway). José Cabrero Arnal
José Cabrero Arnal or C. Arnal (September 6, 1909 in Castilsabás (Huesca)—September 7, 1982 in Antibes, France) was a Spanish comics artist, who nevertheless worked in France for most of his career but was never naturalized as French citizen. He is most famous for the comics series '' Pif le chien'' and '' Placid et Muzo''. Biography During his youth in Barcelona he worked as cabinetmaker and as repairman of calculators. He published his very first graphic works in magazines like '' Pocholo'' or the famous '' TBO'', with a character called ''Top'', a humanized dog that later became the famous '' Pif le chien''. In 1936, after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, he enrolled in the Republican militia and was forced into exile in France after the end of war. In 1940, while his adoptive country was under German occupation, he was captured and deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp, as were many other Republican exiles. Pif Gadget
''Pif Gadget'' was a French comic magazine for children that ran from 1969 to 1993 and 2004 to 2009. Its readership peaked in the early 1970s. Predecessors ''Pif'' has its origins in ''Le Jeune Patriote'', a youth magazine published by French Communists during the German occupation of France during World War II. It was published illegally from January 1942 but became legal from 1944. In 1945 it was renamed ''Vaillant, Le Jeune Patriote''. In 1946 its title was shortened to ''Vaillant'', with the tag, ''"le journal le plus captivant"'' (''The Most Captivating Magazine''). For the April issue of 1965, the title was changed to ''Vaillant, le journal de Pif'', due to the popularity of its character '' Pif'', a dog character created by José Cabrero Arnal. Roger Lécureux
Roger Lécureux (also spelled Lecureux), (7 April 1925 - 31 December 1999) was a French comic book writer. Biography He started off as an offset driver but was dismissed following disputes with his employer. He joined the team of the newspaper Vaillant, in charge of subscriptions, then gradually joined the team of screenwriters. His most important works are ''The Pioneers of Hope'' made with Raymond Poïvet from 1945 to 1973 (he calls them the first comics of French science fiction), and Rahan, which he created in 1969 with André Chéret in the weekly Pif Gadget, from Éditions Vaillant. His goal was to create characters whose behavior was always collective.
