Jacques Heurgon
Jacques Heurgon (25 January 1903 – 27 October 1995) was a French university, normalian, Etruscan scholar and Latinist, professor of Latin language and literature at the Sorbonne. Married to Anne Heurgon-Desjardins, founder in 1952, of the Centre culturel international de Cerisy-la-Salle, he was the father of , politician and historian, Catherine Peyrou and Edith Heurgon who continued the "Colloques of Cerisy". A member of the École française de Rome (1928–1930), he was elected a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres in 1969. Biography Coming from a family of Parisian jewelers, he studied at the lycée Condorcet, where he met poet Jean Tardieu, with whom he would correspond for twenty years. Entered in the École normale supérieure in 1923, he was received at the first rank of the agrégation de lettres. Anne Heurgon-Desjardins (born 1899 – 1977, Manche) was a French philanthropist, the founder of the Centre culturel international de Cerisy-la-Salle. Biography The daughter of professor and journalist Paul Desjardins, founder of the at the abbaye de Pontigny in the Yonne department, Anne Heurgon-Desjardins married the scholar Jacques Heurgon (1903–1995) in 1926, a former student of her father. After the death of her father in 1940, she decided with her mother to sell the abbaye de Pontigny in order to renovate the château of Cerisy-la-Salle, a maternal property. In 1947, at the reopening of the Centre culturel international of Royaumont, whose Board of Administration she was a member, she resumed, with the help of and , the idea of the "Décades" and "libres entretiens" imagined by her father at the Abbaye de Pontigny, first by moving them to the abbaye de Royaumont (Val-d'Oise). Bernard Groethuysen
Bernard Groethuysen (9 September 1880 – 17 September 1946) was a French writer and philosopher. His works, which transgressed the confines of history and sociology, concern the history of mentalities and representations and the interpretation of the experience of the world. In the interwar period, he made the works of Hölderlin and Kafka and the sociology of Germany available in France. Biography Bernard Groethuysen was the second child of five. His mother Olga Groloff was part of a family of Russian immigrants. His father, Philipp Groethuysen, was a Dutch physician with a practice in Berlin. The elder Groethuysen suffered from psychiatric ailments, and after 1885 lived in the sanitorium in Baden-Baden where he died in 1900. It was here that the younger Groethuysen completed his primary and secondary studies. He went on to study philosophy and history at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich.
